At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low‑cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! The role is part of the In‑Space Systems business unit, which is focused on addressing two of the most compelling challenges in spaceflight today: space infrastructure and increasing mobility on‑orbit. We are seeking a Senior Digital Hardware Design Engineer. This role encompasses the comprehensive development of digital modems used in RF or optical communication (lasercom) systems from initial prototyping to production. Your desire to innovate will set the standard for new capabilities and a growing range of customer missions. Responsibilities Review complex electronic systems. Design and implement high‑speed digital hardware designs for new communication systems. Apply research and development skills to architect real‑world products and capabilities from ideas or early prototypes. Recommend hardware and digital architectures that optimize designs for performance and cost while balancing design for test and manufacturing. Support prototype unit build and test phases. Maintain detailed documentation of designs, test procedures, and results. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to achieve project objectives and address technical challenges. Stay apprised of current and future release modem related hardware components including mixed‑signal products, SoCs, FPGAs, ADCs, DACs, and high‑speed electrical and electro‑optical components. Required Qualifications Minimum 7 years of experience in engineering roles involving complex electronic systems. Full custom circuit board design cycle experience (concept through production) involving FPGAs, DDR memory, high‑speed serdes and microprocessors. Ability to work independently with minimal direction and collaboratively with cross‑functional team members. Experience with HDL (VHDL or Verilog). Understanding of FPGA physical constraints and timing closure. Experience in product schedule, cost, and delivery management. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field. Preferred Qualifications 10 years of experience in engineering roles supporting complex electronic systems in the aerospace or high‑end commercial markets. Experience designing high‑speed digital and mixed‑signal circuits, including analysis, simulation, testing, problem‑solving and part selection. Experience with high‑speed digital signal integrity simulation using HyperLynx or similar tools. Knowledge of digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms and communication theory (e.g., filter design, clock recovery, signal detection, channel estimation, and equalization). Familiarity with designing and coding for re‑use, maintainability and scalability. Experience with scripting (Make/TCL/Python) for command line interface build infrastructure and code‑base project management. Experience with AMD/Xilinx Versal family of devices. Current Top Secret or TS/SCI security clearance. Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field. Compensation CA applicants: $152,235.00–$213,127.95 CO applicants: $139,979.00–$195,969.90 WA applicants: $152,235.00–$213,127.95 Other site ranges may differ.
