We are seeking an experienced R&D Systems Engineer - Technical Program Manager to serve as Sandia's Nuclear Threat Science (NTS) Technical Program Manager. The role involves advancing our Nation's counter-WMD capabilities through engineering, science understanding, and technology development. You will collaborate with program leadership across Sandia, NNSA labs, NNSA HQ, and external agencies, including managing cross-program engagement with Incident Response (NEST), Nuclear Forensics, Systems Analysis, and Data Sciences. Key Responsibilities
Plan and execute the NTS program, including development of execution plans, reporting, and collaboration with technical experts Define the future of the Threat Science mission and establish technical and programmatic direction Partner with other program elements for strategic planning and capability development Mentor and coach technical staff Increase awareness of the Threat Science mission within SNL Lead and participate in inter-agency working groups, meetings, and engagements Develop new concepts and ideas for future capabilities and studies Collaborate across programs, capabilities, and external partners to maximize impact This role may require up to 25% travel, including some international travel. $114,000 - $227,500, based on experience and qualifications. Actual salary will be determined accordingly. Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in a relevant STEM field plus 4+ years of related experience or equivalent education and experience At least four years of leading large technical projects or programs At least two years of experience in managing customer/sponsor expectations, leading technical teams, and developing work plans and budgets Active DOE Q and SCI clearance or DOD equivalent Preferred Qualifications
PhD in a relevant STEM discipline Experience in Nuclear Incident Response, Nuclear Forensics, Threat Science, Data Sciences, or related fields Experience managing high-security programs and engaging with labs and external agencies Technical expertise in areas such as energetic materials, nuclear physics, modeling and simulation, or systems analysis Knowledge of safety and security requirements for hazardous activities Strong communication skills and experience as a NEST responder Current Derivative Classifier (DC) training Additional Information
The Nuclear Threat Science Department supports national counter-terrorism efforts, providing technical expertise and tools to NNSA and other agencies.
