Job Summary This position directs Instrument Person(s) and completes houseline, topographic, tree, wetland, boundary, and ALTA surveys. It also handles control surveys, bench loops, and construction staking services while maintaining quality standards.
Responsibilities
Ensure accurate and timely time‑sheet submission and detailed daily activity descriptions.
Keep supervisors informed of workload changes, project scope, and additional services.
Maintain professional relationships with clients and staff.
Coordinate closely with staff and site superintendents.
Operate all field survey instruments correctly and maintain equipment.
Obtain and interpret daily project information.
Electronically file legible field notes and sketches.
Upload and download data and calibration files to/from collectors.
Stock company vehicle each morning with necessary supplies and equipment.
Clean and maintain the field vehicle.
Accurately complete all survey services: houseline, topographic, tree, wetland, boundary, ALTA, control, bench loops, construction staking, recording drawings, as‑constructed surveys.
Check control and block sheets and coordinate information with office surveyors.
Use Trimble Business Center and other required software.
Make independent decisions within the general project framework.
Check in with the client on arrival and departure daily.
Communicate with the Survey Project Manager and/or Staff Surveyor daily.
Complete projects efficiently and within Manhard quality standards.
Mentor and train Instrument persons, Survey Interns, Engineers, and Surveyors in field work.
Perform commercial building column staking services and review engineering plans for potential field issues.
Co‑ordinate multiple field staff on job sites.
Identify opportunities to improve equipment and software use and enhance standard procedures and quality standards.
Demonstrate leadership qualities and mentor other crew chiefs.
Complete construction calculations and block sheets in CAD.
Education & Experience
High School Diploma or Surveying Degree with 5‑8 years of experience.
Certificates, Licenses & Registrations
Valid driver’s license.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Excellent oral and written communication.
Ability to direct instrument persons and other field surveyors.
Strong sense of urgency, self‑initiative, and ability to meet client deadlines.
Availability to work overtime and in all weather conditions.
Willingness to learn and improve field skills and survey knowledge.
Ability to make independent decisions within the project framework.
Fluency in English.
Physical Demands
Work primarily outdoors at construction sites, landfills, and traffic zones.
Pretend strenuous tasks, including lifting up to 75 lbs over rough terrain.
Climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as needed.
Clear vegetation, dig holes, pound stakes with hand tools.
Stand, walk, use hands to reach, and perform tactile tasks.
