What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a motivated Logistics Engineer who will drive systems-level optimizations for inbound logistics. This role will marry inputs from material planning, supplier sourcing, packaging, warehousing, logistics and real estate teams to champion analyses for overall system optimizations. This position necessitates a strong foundation in Industrial Engineering, complemented by comprehensive expertise in Operations Research, Discrete Event Simulations, as well as a thorough understanding of Supply Chain principles. It is critical for a successful applicant to solve problems using first principles analysis, and exercise aggressive design optimization. This role may be based in Austin, TX.

What You'll Do
Display a positive attitude and practice strong work ethics that reflect the mission, philosophy and goals of Tesla
Design and execute innovative logistics strategies encompassing route optimization, network design, and inventory control systems
Develop and deploy creative cost-effective transportation solutions by leveraging strategies such as intermodal transportation (IMDL), JIT, cross-docking, and milk run logistics
Drive data-driven communication across teams such as Material Planning, Logistics, Packaging, and Sourcing to develop global optimization strategies
Develop models to capture actionable opportunities to reduce on-hand inventory and minimize warehousing while reducing overall part cost
Analyze opportunities to localize supplier base and help make it happen
Create tools to manage Material Planning inputs for inventory calculations
Identify potential improvements to packaged part density with Packaging team to reduce logistics/storage footprint
Manage expected warehouse, logistics yard, and factory raw material buffer size projections over time
What You'll Bring
Degree in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, Logistics, or equivalent experience
Extensive experience in SQL and scripting languages like Python to process and prepare data for modeling and analysis
4+ years' experience with emphasis on supply chain optimization (internship experience will be considered)
Experience solving ambiguous, system-level problems using quantitative methods and linear programming principles
Strong background in Excel with VBA (or similar tools) and data visualization tools similar to Tableau or Power BI
Solid understanding of logistics, warehousing design, and packaging optimization in collaboration with Packaging Engineering/Design teams
Familiarity with packaging qualification testing for logistics and regulatory standards (e.g., ISTA, ISO) is a plus
Exposure to discrete event simulation software (e.g., ARENA, FlexSim) and work measurement systems similar to MOST or MODAPTS
Demonstrated leadership and ability to drive cross-functional projects in high-volume manufacturing environments
Strong analytical skills with the ability to communicate insights clearly through verbal and written communication
