Job Description
The University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Dentistry is seeking a highly motivated and experienced General Dentist to serve as the Director of the University Dental Practice (UDP). This full‑time faculty position involves providing comprehensive dental care within the College’s faculty practice while leading and managing the operations of the UDP. The Director will collaborate with clinical and administrative teams to ensure excellence in patient care, support the school’s mission, and promote a patient‑centered environment that reflects the highest standards of professionalism and service. This role includes a non‑tenured faculty appointment (rank commensurate with experience) and offers opportunities for involvement in teaching, mentorship, clinical research, and academic service.
Responsibilities Clinical Care and Leadership
Provide comprehensive general dentistry services to patients within the University Dental Practice.
Oversee the day‑to‑day clinical operations of the UDP, ensuring efficient, high‑quality patient care.
Lead initiatives to improve patient satisfaction, practice growth, and financial sustainability.
Serve as a clinical resource and mentor to other faculty and staff in the practice.
Administrative and Strategic Management
Collaborate with School leadership on budgeting, staffing, scheduling, and strategic planning.
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, university, and accreditation standards related to clinical care.
Maintain up‑to‑date policies and procedures that support best practices in infection control, HIPAA compliance, and patient safety.
Develop and implement marketing and outreach strategies to enhance the visibility and reputation of the UDP.
Academic and Faculty Responsibilities
Engage in teaching predoctoral students and/or postdoctoral AEGD residents, as appropriate.
Contribute to faculty meetings, curriculum development, and academic committees.
Participate in scholarly activities, continuing education, and professional development.
Represent the UDP within the School of Dentistry and to external partners.
Preferred
Completion of an AEGD or GPR residency program.
Experience in academic or dental school faculty practice settings.
Prior experience in administrative leadership roles.
Knowledge of electronic health records (EHR) and dental practice management systems.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Qualifications
DS or DMD degree from a CODA‑accredited dental school.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in clinical general dentistry. Demonstrated experience in dental practice operations, leadership, or healthcare management.
Current licensure (or eligibility for licensure) to practice dentistry in the state of Tennessee.
