Essential Job Responsibilities

Assists the physician in assessing the needs of patients based on history, observation, physical exam, telephone triage, and diagnostic data.

Perform direct patient care, including triage, assessment, procedures, treatments, patient education, discharge, and follow‑up instructions.

Formulate the initial database by collecting pertinent information through communication with patients and families, observation, and objective evaluation; record all relevant information in the patient’s chart.

Record data in the patient’s medical record as appropriate.

Perform specialized tests such as audiometry, electrocardiography, inhalation treatments, and selected laboratory procedures as needed.

Prepare medications and administer injections as ordered by the physician.

Assist the physician with treatments and procedures as needed.

Provide patient education appropriate to the situation.

Schedule testing and referral appointments per physician instructions.

Consult with patients on telephone calls, either addressing the problem or referring the call to the physician.

Perform follow‑up calls to patients as necessary.

Clean and straighten examination rooms between patients according to OSHA standards.

Keep all necessary instruments clean and available in examination rooms.

Set up and maintain equipment, and immediately notify the physician office manager or appropriate personnel of any malfunction.

Maintain medical supply inventory, check expiration dates on drugs and vaccines, and dispose of outdated medications; order all medical supplies and assist drug representatives as needed.

Develop and maintain a working knowledge of all equipment required to perform duties.

Promote a climate conducive to learning through encouragement of co‑workers’ formal and informal continuing education.

Assist with overall review of patient care quality by performing chart audits and prescribed data collection.

Actively participate in departmental QA projects, promoting the practice mission and philosophy.

Promote the practice by projecting a positive image.

Demonstrate a willingness to perform the duties of other department personnel when workload requires.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications / Training

Computer skills required.

Education / Certifications / Licenses

Current South Carolina (or compact state) licensure as an LPN (SCLLR) in good standing required.

Basic Life Saving (BLS) certification required within 90 days of hire.
