Job Summary The Market Medical Director is an important part of the ArchWell Health leadership team. The physician in this role will be responsible for leading PCPs in his/her neighborhood of clinics, which may include some clinical practice alongside their physician colleagues in order to remain close to our patients. They will also have mission‑critical leadership responsibilities, which include setting an example for how high‑quality primary care is practiced, serving as a leader, mentor and coach to providers in ArchWell Health centers, and providing input on critical organizational‑wide strategic initiatives.
Candidate Responsibilities
Provider Management: Leaders stay close to the bedside and keep a pulse on the care being delivered. Market Medical Directors are in the centers providing leadership, support and structure to physicians and care teams. They ensure centers are properly staffed and call schedules are covered, recruit/develop/coaching physicians, promote local leadership roles, support performance reviews, and play a key role in supporting new physician orientation and ongoing training.
Leadership and Coaching: Success is based on quality of care. Market Medical Directors monitor metrics such as hospital admission rates, ER visits, disease prevention consistency, quality targets and patient experience. They educate clinicians on value‑based care, coach use of data‑driven tools, share best‑practice experiences and serve as role models for keeping patients out of the hospital.
Care Delivery and Center Operations: Market Medical Directors lead market‑level clinical meetings, including weekly physician meetings, reviews of hospitalized patients and those at risk for deterioration. They support care teams, teach best practices for daily huddles, telehealth, walk‑in visits, hospital follow‑up, patient experience and other critical activities. They review quality dashboards, engage staff to foster accountability and identify improvement opportunities.
Support Organizational Strategy: Market Medical Directors play a key role in continuous improvement, collaborating with corporate teams and leadership in other markets to share best practices and improvement opportunities. They provide strategic input into organizational‑wide goals including the following categories:
Network development and specialty referrals
Documentation and accurate coding
Quality improvement and HEDIS measures
Utilization management
Transitional care and case management
Clinical compliance and policy development
Patient engagement and community outreach
Drive Culture: Market Medical Directors embody the mission to transform primary care and deliver high‑quality care to seniors. They communicate the impact of the care model, ensure staff is part of a collaborative environment and prides themselves on improving patients’ lives.
Ideal Candidates
M.D. or D.O. graduates
Board certified or eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine (required)
Have at least one (1) year experience in progressively responsible administrative or management‑related position in a primary care environment
Have experience supervising providers and clinical staff with a demonstrated record of success
Previous experience working within a managed care or value‑based environment
Be highly collaborative and enjoy leading teams with a patient‑centric orientation
Driven to care for those with comorbid conditions, the elderly and/or medically underserved
Passionate about their work and energized by being part of a fast‑growing organization
