Position:

Senior Camera Systems Engineer

This role is part of the Advanced Technologies (AT) organization. We are seeking an experienced engineer to drive current and future camera system requirements, designs, and scaled manufacturing and deployment.

What you'll do

Generate camera and camera system requirements that support business objectives, and develop camera system designs based on detailed systems and trade‑off analyses

Decompose camera system requirements for dissemination to contributing teams, including metric definition and measurement approaches

Work cross‑functionally with hardware, machine learning, embedded software, technical operations and manufacturing teams to design, develop and deploy camera solutions to Metropolis facilities

Support camera system design and validation processes, including manufacturing and test / calibration

Perform optical and camera system simulations / tests as required to quantify and validate proposed solutions

Work with partners to enable manufacturing of designed camera systems, including establishing test and validation processes and criteria

Work with vendors of cameras and optical devices/components to evaluate their capabilities against our needs and specify our requirements to them

Create, utilize, and maintain a camera lab for evaluating new vision technologies and as part of a larger QA process for maintaining the integrity of our camera designs

Support troubleshooting of field‑deployed systems

What we’re looking for

MS or PhD in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Imaging Science or equivalent

5+ years of industry experience working with imaging systems

Deep understanding of camera technologies, optical systems, and imaging pipelines

Practical experience with optics, image sensor and pixel fundamentals, and camera construction and assembly

Hands‑on experience with imaging system test and validation systems, including measurement of traditional and product‑specific image quality metrics

Production experience with end‑to‑end imaging processing pipeline, including HDR and image quality modules

Proven track record of productizing 3A and ISP algorithms and settings tailored to camera use cases

Familiarity with computer vision and machine learning fundamentals, including algorithm development, modeling and optimization

Experience performing data analysis and automation to yield actionable insights

Delivered at least one camera system from concept to mass production

Experience with at least one relevant modern programming language (Python, etc.)

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a proven ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences

Role is hybrid on‑site in Seattle, WA

While not required, these are a plus

Previous experience working inside innovative, high‑growth environments

The anticipated base salary for this position is $150,000.00 USD to $200,000.00 USD annually. The actual base salary offered is determined by a number of variables, including, as appropriate, the applicant's qualifications for the position, years of relevant experience, distinctive skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location of residence and/or place of employment.

Base salary is one component of Metropolis’s total compensation package, which may also include access to or eligibility for healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan, short‑term and long‑term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a lucrative stock option plan, bonus plans and more.
