Senior Software Engineer - Robotics Middleware
Anduril Industries, Inc., Boston, Massachusetts, us, 02298
Senior Software Engineer, Lattice Vehicle Interface
Anduril Industries is a defense technology company with a mission to transform U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. By bringing the expertise, technology, and business model of the 21st century’s most innovative companies to the defense industry, Anduril is changing how military systems are designed, built and sold. Anduril’s family of systems is powered by Lattice OS, an AI‑powered operating system that turns thousands of data streams into a real‑time, 3D command and control center. As the world enters an era of strategic competition, Anduril is committed to bringing cutting‑edge autonomy, AI, computer vision, sensor fusion, and networking technology to the military in months, not years.
About the Team The Lattice Vehicle Interface team builds and owns the onboard (i.e. on‑robot) interface between high‑level mission autonomy software and numerous robot platforms. This enables our business lines to rapidly build, test, and iterate on multi‑agent collaborative autonomy missions. Our customers use teams of heterogeneous robots that can sense the world, move around, and coordinate to achieve their objectives given high‑level plans from human operators. Our software is deployed on a variety of robot platforms from autonomous jets and underwater submersibles to rotary‑wing aircraft and everything in between.
Every mission demands a different set of robot capabilities, and our vehicle interfaces must be flexible enough to allow developers to build high‑level behaviors that make the best use of the specific sensors and payloads available.
Core to our team’s mandate is simulated capabilities of real‑world robot capabilities, such as camera and gimbal manipulation, payload manipulation, and motion control. Therefore you’ll have the chance to not only drive Vehicle APIs for internal and third‑party use, but also build the simulated capability implementations that will be widely used throughout the company.
What You’ll Do
Design and implement interfaces to real‑world robot platform capabilities (sensors, actuators, motion controllers, payload manipulators, etc.)
Design and build simulated implementations of those capabilities that comply with the common interfaces.
Solicit and incorporate feedback from end users of the APIs and implementations, and collaborate with adjacent engineering teams to help make the product vision a reality.
Create and maintain APIs, SDKs, and documentation for production software used across Anduril and by third parties.
Test and validate capability modules through unit testing, simulation testing, and performance benchmarks.
Drive the future of the Anduril and third‑party robot ecosystem by working on the software at the center of all interactions between the high‑level onboard mission autonomy software and the robot platforms they manipulate.
Required Qualifications
3+ years of experience in C++ software engineering, with a focus on onboard robotics.
Experience designing and writing APIs.
Experience developing embedded Linux–based systems.
Experience with robot operating systems and robot frameworks.
Experience debugging and performing root‑cause investigations.
Strong communication skills and an ability to work effectively with cross‑functional teams.
Must be a U.S. Person due to required access to U.S. export‑controlled information or facilities.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with networking software.
Experience developing with Protobuf.
Experience developing with Rust.
