What We Do The Community Services Department provides exceptional recreational, educational, cultural, and social services to the community to enhance and maintain a high quality of life in Beverly Hills. The Recreation and Parks Division is responsible for providing recreation and enrichment programs for all ages, parks and community center programming and management, and community events, sports and aquatics activities. The Division also manages the Joint Powers Agreement with the Beverly Hills Unified School District and operates the historic Greystone Mansion and Estate. The Division maintains diverse and innovative recreation and cultural programming and services for the community.

What We're Looking For The Senior Recreation Supervisor will provide facility oversight of the Roxbury Community Center and Park. The Roxbury Community Center emphasizes youth and adult sports and programs ranging from pre‑school aged to senior citizens and includes adult classes and the aquatics program. The position will oversee a large staff of approximately 4 full‑time and over 20+ part‑time positions. The incumbent must be able to lead and engage staff, develop and track budget expenditures for program areas, and build positive working relationships with community members, contract vendors, and other affiliated community agencies. The department seeks candidates who are able to communicate effectively, maintain flexibility among competing priorities and lead staff in providing a high level of service across a range of program offerings. The ideal candidate will possess prior experience overseeing a municipal recreation facility for a highly engaged community along with demonstrated experience in implementing community programs and events. This position is 100% on‑site, has the option to work a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off and will work weekends as needed. The incumbent will report directly to the Recreation Services Manager.

Performance Examination

The first oral exam is tentatively scheduled for the week of February 10, 2025 (date may be subject to change). Applications will be screened for minimum qualifications. Among those meeting the minimum qualifications, those that appear to have the most relevant and desirable experience will be invited to participate in the oral exam/interview.

The eligibility list established from this recruitment may be used for other departments and/or to fill a position of a lower classification.

Major Duties Under general direction of the Assistant Director of Community Services/Recreation and Parks, plans, directs and oversees a wide range of recreational programs and services designed to meet the leisure needs of the community, and to manage the responsibilities for a major recreation facility.

Manages the daily operations of recreation center or facility.

Directs the activities of and supervises full‑time and a large number of part‑time personnel.

Coordinates and manages recreation programs and leisure activities of the center or programming sites.

Researches, recommends and implements new programs with staff for recreation center or programming sites.

Prepares and presents oral and written reports relating to recreation programs.

Represents the division/City at meetings and civic functions.

Supervises procedures for records maintenance such as financial records including payroll, program revenue and expenditure reports and recommends approval for expenditures.

Prepares annual budget for programs within area of responsibility.

Investigates public complaints and inquiries regarding the recreation center, park or programs; takes and/or recommends corrective action to resolve public concerns.

Directs recruitment, hiring and training of part‑time staff and assists in the hiring and training of full‑time staff; conducts personnel‑related activities for full‑time staff including performance evaluations, workshops, and training.

Monitors the overall maintenance of recreation center or facility and recommends purchase of new equipment as needed.

Supervises the development, implementation and promotion of public relation and media campaigns for facility and programs within area of responsibility.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Public Administration or related field.

Three (3) years experience implementing recreational activities or programs, including supervisory experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of:

Principles, practices and methods of park and recreation administration, development and management.

Program content for specialized and general community recreation activities.

Personnel management principles, practices, and techniques including employee selection, management, evaluation and training.

Ability to:

Supervise the organization, implementation and evaluation of recreation and leisure activities and specialized events.

Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees and the public.
