Position Summary:

Conduct research activities under the supervision of Dr. Mariana Reis‑Havlat, focusing on cementum biology and aging in the periodontium.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Report directly to the Principal Investigator (PI) and collaborate to develop and carry out research objectives and design.

Conduct and coordinate advanced research experiments; analyze and interpret data, refining experimental design.

Design and execute experimental and animal studies on aging and disease conditions using RNA sequencing, microarray analysis, and in situ hybridization.

Prepare manuscripts for publication, present findings at conferences, and engage in peer review.

Generate data, compile figures, and draft grant applications.

Mentor and teach undergraduate, master’s, and PhD students in the laboratory.

Perform additional duties as assigned.

Collaborate with the PI to develop an individual research career development plan and engage in related activities.

Participate in special projects as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

PhD or equivalent obtained within the last five years; appointment limited to five years.

Advanced degree in Molecular Biology, Bioengineering, Immunology, Biomaterials, or a related field.

Exceptional academic record, including at least one first‑author publication in a peer‑reviewed journal.

Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Hands‑on experience with animal handling (microsurgical techniques), cell culture, western blot, DNA/RNA purification, PCR, RT‑PCR, and immunohistochemistry.

Experience with basic bioinformatics.

Excellent organizational and communication skills with a strong work ethic.

Strong recommendation from a research mentor or thesis advisor.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with rodent handling and cell isolation.

Experience with mineralized tissues such as bone, dentin, and cementum.

Experience in big data biological analysis, proteomics, and spatial transcriptomics.

Strong interpersonal skills and track record of fostering collaborative research between a dental school and external partners.
