Job Summary We are seeking a Rail Bridge Engineering Leader to join our Rail + Transit team. This role involves leading the design and delivery of complex railway bridge projects for public agencies, Class I railroads, and design-build clients. The ideal candidate will have deep technical expertise in rail structures, industry standards, and experience leading multidisciplinary teams. This leadership position offers mentorship, client management, and strategic growth opportunities within our rail infrastructure practice.
Responsibilities & Qualifications What You’ll Do:
Provide technical leadership and strategic direction for rail bridge design and analysis, including steel, concrete, and long-span structures.
Act as the technical authority on seismic analysis, fatigue assessment, and load ratings, ensuring compliance with AREMA, AASHTO, and agency standards.
Lead and manage rail bridge projects from concept to construction, overseeing schedule, budget, quality, and risk.
Develop and maintain strong client relationships with DOTs, Class I and short-line railroads, and public transportation agencies.
Review engineering reports, design packages, and technical documentation to ensure quality and standards compliance.
Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, fostering a collaborative team environment.
Contribute to business development through proposals, client interactions, and identifying new opportunities.
Collaborate with internal teams across disciplines for integrated infrastructure solutions.
Represent TYLin at industry events, conferences, and technical committees as a thought leader in rail bridge engineering.
What You’ll Bring:
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering; Master’s preferred.
PE license in Illinois or ability to obtain via reciprocity; SE license highly desirable.
15+ years of progressive experience in bridge engineering, especially in railroad and transit structures.
Proficiency with SAP2000, CSI Bridge, MIDAS, LARSA.
Deep knowledge of AREMA and railroad-specific standards.
Experience managing large-scale rail projects and working with Class I Railroads or similar agencies.
Strong leadership, mentorship, and client engagement skills.
Understanding of funding, permitting, and regulatory processes for public infrastructure.
Experience in strategic planning, proposal writing, and business development.
Commitment to innovation, sustainability, and resilient bridge solutions.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
