Associate Director of Athletics
Ascension Episcopal School is seeking an Associate Director of Athletics for the 2025-2026 school year. This is a full‑time leadership position with the opportunity to shape a vibrant athletic championship experience for students and families in a Christian environment.
The Associate Director will harness our potential and lead the middle school athletic department to even greater heights in conjunction with the Director of Athletics. Will lead with the belief that athletics is a primary vehicle for significant character development in young people. This position calls for a balance of visionary thinking, strategic planning, and practical execution to support the ongoing growth of our school.
This position reports to the Director of Athletics.
Key Responsibilities and Roles
Work with all constituents to create a Christian environment across all athletic events.
Serve as an exemplar to coaches, students, and parents of the values of Ascension.
Lead the department with a focus on growth, excellence, and holistic development for student‑athletes by hosting monthly meetings with coaches and staff.
Communicate the department’s vision effectively to coaches, staff, and the community.
Oversee the athletic calendar, including scheduling, event execution, and communication with all stakeholders.
Work with coaches to ensure that value‑based standards are set and upheld on all teams and during athletic events.
Enforce student policies as written in the athletics handbook.
Hold evaluative meetings with coaching staff.
Department Management
Possess physical office space at both the middle and upper school campuses.
Ensure compliance with middle school league rules and navigate complex regulations.
Plan and execute athletic events that foster school spirit and community.
Maximize departmental resources, balancing financial and operational constraints to achieve excellence.
Manage risk factors and safety concerns related to athletic activities.
Ownership of the competition gym building in regards to inventory, cleanliness, and office space.
Talent Management
Recruit, evaluate, and retain top coaching talent to align with the school’s vision.
Provide mentorship to coaching staff, fostering professional development and a culture of excellence.
Assist with the internal recruitment of student‑athletes, ensuring alignment with the school’s mission and values.
Communication & Community Engagement
Effectively communicate department goals, events, and updates to inspire confidence across the school community.
Build positive relationships with parents, students, faculty, and staff, ensuring open communication.
Lead meetings with student‑athletes and parents should a concern arise.
Represent the school at external athletic events and scheduling meetings as needed.
Additional Responsibilities
Head coach of JV/Varsity athletic team; additional coaching expectations.
Consult with the Director of Athletics to effectively run day‑to‑day operations within the Athletic Department.
Select and lead a council of student‑athletes in grades 9‑12 to drive the mission and values of the department.
Confer on discipline matters concerning student‑athletes.
Schedule athletic honors/celebrations for 8th grade to be held during the school day. Host 8th grade athletic banquet.
Assist the school’s advancement department to develop additional resources and facilities.
Engage with Ascension’s athletic social media accounts.
Additional tasks that may be assigned by the Director of Athletics or senior administration.
Qualifications The successful candidate will have a strong grounding in the Christian faith and a commitment to the school’s mission. Salary is competitive and commensurate with education and experience.
