Cooley Dickinson’s VNA & Hospice is also a vital part of our network, providing home-based services throughout Hampshire and Franklin counties.**Job Summary**The Anesthesia Technician is responsible for performing a variety of duties related to the support of the anesthesia department.
This position is part of the 1199SEIU Bargaining Unit at Cooley Dickinson Hospital.
This position reports to the Director, Nursing – Perioperative Services and operates within established organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
Must be able to effectively interact appropriately to an individual's intellectual level and physical ability.
Infants, Pediatrics, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric.
Essential Functions
Assist the Anesthesiologists with room set-up.
-Stock the carts and anesthesia machine, maintaining machines per hospital, Department of Health and Joint Commission standards.
-Provide assistance to anesthesiologists with difficult intubations.
-Maintain anesthesia supplies and equipment in all surgical or procedural sites
-OR, Endoscopy, CVIR and CBC).
-Assist the anesthesiologist in set up for elective and emergent procedures.
-Assist with regional anesthesia, fiberoptic intubation, arterial line placement, central venous catheter placement, and other procedures as directed.
-Set up arterial line tubing, rapid infuser, and hot line fluid warmers.
-Assist in the transport of critical care patients to and from surgery.
-Maintain anesthesia equipment, performing daily machine system check and trouble shooting.
-Assist in the cleaning, sterilization, set-up, and maintenance of equipment, e.g. clean, canisters, anesthesia canisters, anesthesia circuits and suctions, monitoring lines, LMAs and laryngoscope blades.
-Comply with documentation of maintenance of all anesthesia machines, removal of medications, syringes, needles, etc.
-Inventory and order anesthesia supplies and medication within cost efficient, budgetary par levels sufficient to perform anticipated caseloads.
-Maintain and clean difficult airway cart and anesthesia carts.
-Act as a liaison for the department with outside vendors for equipment/supply repair.
-Effectively communicate with anesthesiologists, nursing staff, and department and hospital personnel.
-Adjust quickly and prepare for emergency or emergent cases that change work flow.
-Perform all duties in a conscientious, courteous, and caring manner to maintain positive customer and patient relations.
-Independently establish priorities and maintain attention to detail despite frequent interruptions.
-Cross train to perform functions of OR Clinical Associate as needed.
-Maintain established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, confidentiality, quality improvement program, compliance, safety, infection control and environmental standards.
-Maintain professional growth and development through attendance at seminars, workshops, conferences or in-services, professional affiliations or journals to stay abreast of current trends in field of expertise.
-Meet annual competency and retraining requirements.
-Ensure staff meets annual competency and retraining requirements.
-Attend meetings as required.
-Perform other functions/duties as requested.**Qualifications**Education
