Position Overview The Director of Patient Access Services (PAS) manages the daily operations of the Patient Access Services Department and implements process improvements to ensure the safe, timely, and accurate processing of patients through a standardized, consistent, efficient, and effective patient access model. The Director ensures all scheduling coordination, pre‑registration, financial counseling, and registration/admission processes are complete, consistent, and standardized, maximizing cash flow for all SRHS admissions and ancillary services.
The Director of PAS is also responsible for ensuring professional, quality customer service and coordination of services at all times. The Director understands the relationship between the revenue cycle needs and the patient care environment—including operational expenses, budget guidelines, and system changes.
The Director analyzes alternative paths to specific outcomes, investigates complaints and concerns, and fosters staff versatility while collaborating with clinical personnel and other revenue cycle leaders. The Director is a role model who leads by example and handles departmental issues in a professional and impartial manner. They communicate the relevant components of the SRHS Corporate Compliance Program to ensure complete understanding and adherence.

Education Bachelor’s degree (business or healthcare administration preferred). Seven (7) years of progressive healthcare experience (hospital/health system preferred) may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree requirement. Evidence of continuing education preferred.

Certifications Certified Health Access Manager (CHAM) preferred.
In addition to the above, one or more of the following certifications is preferred:
Certified Revenue Cycle Executive (CRCE)
Certified Healthcare Financial Professional (CHFP)
Experience With a bachelor’s degree, a minimum of three (3) years of relevant, healthcare experience in a hospital/health system is required. In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, a minimum of seven (7) years of progressive healthcare experience is required.
Must have de‑escalation training completed by the end of the position orientation (90 days). Must possess an appropriate level of de‑escalation training.
Proficiency with Epic or a comparable system is required.
Reports to Executive Director of Revenue Cycle
Supervises Patient Access Services personnel
Physical Demands Work is moderately active: involves sitting with frequent requirements to move about the office, move around the facility, and travel to another facility within the SRHS service area. Work involves exerting a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Subject to exposure to body fluids, sputum, and tissues, which may carry the hazard of infectious disease. Requires repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and fingers while operating standard office equipment such as a computer keyboard. Must be able to perceive the nature of sound at normal speaking levels with or without correction; must have the ability to make fine discriminations in sound. Must maintain close visual acuity and adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus, shifting gaze from a computer monitor to close‑distance forms or printed material. Must be able to be active extended periods of time without undue fatigue and must be able to work schedules assigned with the understanding that changes may be instituted according to the needs of the hospital for off days, shifts, or weekends.
Mental Demands Must demonstrate keen mental faculties, assessment, and decision‑making abilities. Must demonstrate superior communication, speaking, and enunciation skills to receive and give information in person and by telephone. Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills. Must possess emotional stability conducive to dealing with high stress levels. Must demonstrate ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Special Demands Must possess superior customer service skills and professional etiquette. Must possess proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (keyboard proficiency required) and other office technology (telephone, fax, etc.), MS Outlook, and Word. Job requires traveling throughout the SRHS service area, with the employee providing their own transportation.
Qualifications Attention to detail and the ability to multi‑task in complex situations is required. Must be able to maintain collaborative and respectful working relationships throughout SRHS and other organizations. Must have expert knowledge of and compliance with confidentiality guidelines and SRHS policies and procedures. Must have expert knowledge of insurance requirements and guidelines for governmental and non‑governmental carriers. Must have expert knowledge of regulatory guidelines, such as EMTALA, HIPAA, MSPQ, and ABN. Must demonstrate an excellent understanding of revenue cycle management and a working knowledge of medical procedures and terminology.
