Position Overview

The Senior Analyst brings knowledge of and experience in applied research and evaluation and applies that knowledge to lead the successful design, execution and management of projects in the context of NICHQ’s maternal child health work. The Senior Analyst works closely and collaboratively with the Senior leadership in Programs and in the Department of Applied Research and Evaluation (DARE), project leads, Quality Improvement Advisors, expert faculty members, funders, and project teams to design and execute applied research and evaluation work that provides high-quality, relevant data analysis and recommendations across the lifecycle of projects. The Senior Analyst plays an integral and leadership role on NICHQ’s Applied Research and Evaluation team, guiding the department’s work (under the supervision of the Associate Director and senior leadership in DARE), as well as in the team’s work to capture, develop, and spread innovative approaches. The Senior Analyst may provide additional research consulting services and assist in elevating NICHQ’s standing in the scientific community by driving strategic planning for publications and conference presentations.

Summary

Status: Full-Time, Exempt Employee, US Based Remote

Reports to: Principal Analyst Department of Applied Research and Evaluation (DARE)

Responsibilities

Applied research and evaluation tasks including

Planning

Create and implement plans for data management and analytic file creation

Collaborate with program staff to meet project deliverables on schedule

Data collection and management

Design, build and maintain REDCap databases to support research data collection efforts

Create and optimize data collection instruments ensuring alignment with research objectives and reporting requirements

Develop and implement data collection protocols, including date entry guidelines, access controls and validation rules

Establish and maintain quality assurance and quality control systems

Perform data validation checks and produce reports for internal teams and external stakeholders

Investigate, track, and resolve data queries, support extant data transfer efforts

Lead data harmonization efforts across data sources

Provide technical guidance and support on REDCap functionalities and best practices to project teams

Data analysis

Clean, transform, and validate data to ensure accuracy and readiness for analysis

Conduct descriptive and inferential analysis using statistical software such are SAS to inform research findings

Utilize knowledge of statistical methodology to inform study design and operations.

Provide consultation to other project teams on statistical analysis techniques (e.g., sampling, random assignment, application scoring and weighting), as needed

Keep abreast of current trends in statistical methods and program evaluation

Reporting and dissemination

Prepare comprehensive summaries and graphic representations of statistical findings across different formats

Review abstracts for professional conferences and manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications

Provide consultation to project teams in their development of reports and other materials that include research data

Identifies and appropriately brings complex project insights, concerns, and potential solutions in a timely manner to project and DARE lead(s) and collaborates to implement solutions

May be responsible for the supervision and development of individuals working in applied research and evaluation

Represents the Applied Research and Evaluation team on projects in a collaborative and supportive manner and participates in other activities of the applied research and evaluation team as needed

Skills and Knowledge

Demonstrates subject matter expertise in data management, biostatistics and/or epidemiology

Synthesizes complex information into usable formats

Works independently, capable of making decisions with limited oversight

Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines with minimal support from supervisor while working remotely

Strong communications skills (both verbal and written)

Qualifications and Characteristics

Master’s degree or MPH in biostatistics or epidemiology; at least 3 years’ work experience in a health services, social science, or clinical research setting doing quantitative research

Experience designing, building and maintaining REDCap databases

Extensive experience and strong programming skills in statistical software programs (e.g. SAS and R)

Proficient in Microsoft Office, visualization software and database management; adept at quickly learning new technologies
