About the Role The Outreach & Government Affairs Manager will lead CAIR-Houston’s community engagement, coalition building, and public policy initiatives.

This role blends grassroots outreach with government relations, requiring both community organizing skill and political awareness.

The ideal candidate is a proactive relationship-builder who can represent CAIR-Houston in diverse settings—from mosques and youth programs to city hall and congressional offices.

Primary Roles & Responsibilities Community Outreach & Engagement

Manage Outreach Coordinator & Partner with Director to:

Build and maintain strong relationships with mosques, Islamic schools, MSAs, and local organizations

Coordinate workshops, trainings, and speaking engagements for CAIR’s directors, staff, and volunteers

Manage the internship, externship, and volunteer programs

Implement youth engagement programs such as the *Muslim Youth Leadership Symposium (MYLS)*

Maintain comprehensive databases of outreach activities, partners, and events

Government & Public Affairs

Manage Advocacy Coordinator & Partner with Director to:

Track key local, state, and federal legislative developments affecting civil rights and the Muslim community

Build and maintain relationships with elected officials, legislative staff, and government agencies

Prepare and distribute policy briefs, fact sheets, and action alerts

Support advocacy campaigns, civic engagement drives, and coalition efforts

Represent CAIR-Houston at community, interfaith, and government events

Qualifications Required

Bachelor’s degree (Political Science, Communications, Public Policy, or related field) or equivalent experience

1–3 years of community organizing, government relations, or advocacy experience

Strong organizational and time management skills

Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects under pressure

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and online research tools

Passion for CAIR’s mission of promoting justice and mutual understanding

Preferred

Proficiency with EveryAction

Experience working with elected officials, policy advocacy, or grassroots organizing

Knowledge of PowerPoint and basic database management
