This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced
Project Engineer
to join a large, award-winning, and nationally recognized Heavy Highway/Civil Contractor. Our client is a leader in the industry, self-performing bridges, underground utilities, structures, asphalt, and concrete paving. As a Senior Project Engineer, you will be involved in managing the technical aspects of heavy civil and highway construction projects, ensuring that work is completed according to engineering standards, codes, plans, and specifications.
Position Summary In this dynamic role, the Senior Project Engineer will be responsible for overseeing large projects, managing the construction process from start to finish. You’ll be handling project costs, budgets, schedules, change orders, and subcontractor management while ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. This position is a key stepping stone to a future in Project Management.
Compensation
Base Salary:
$100,000 - $125,000, plus annual bonus

Key Responsibilities
Project Oversight:
Manage construction processes and technical aspects of heavy civil/highway projects from pre-construction to project close-out.
Budget & Cost Management:
Responsible for tracking project costs and budgets, ensuring accurate cost coding, and managing project P&L.
Scheduling:
Develop and manage project schedules, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
Subcontractor Management:
Oversee subcontractors to ensure timely, safe, and high-quality work.
Change Orders & Claims:
Handle change orders and potential claims, ensuring all variations are properly documented and resolved.
Documentation & Compliance:
Manage RFIs, submittals, and ensure that all work meets engineering standards, codes, and specifications.
Safety Management:
Promote and enforce safety policies on all job sites.
Owner/GC Correspondence:
Maintain strong communication with owners and general contractors to ensure project requirements are met.
Requirements
Experience:
8+ years of experience in heavy civil/heavy highway/site work construction.
Technical Expertise:
Experience with at least two of the following: Bridges, Underground Utilities, Highways, Structures, and/or Public Works.
Preferred:
Self-performing experience in Bridges, Structures, Asphalt, and Concrete Paving.
Software:
Proficient in Primavera P6, Microsoft Excel, or Microsoft Project. Familiarity with P6, Heavy Job, HCSS, and Bluebeam is a plus.
Education:
4-year degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Skills & Attributes
Strong project oversight and management skills.
Proficient in budgeting, cost tracking, and project scheduling.
Excellent communication skills for correspondence with owners, GCs, and subcontractors.
Ability to manage project teams, subcontractors, and ensure safety compliance on-site.
Knowledge of construction documentation (RFIs, submittals, change orders).
