This position supports Mesa's SDC business. Our Sterilization and Disinfection Control division manufactures and sells biological and chemical indicators that assess the effectiveness of sterilization and disinfection processes for pharmaceutical, healthcare, and dental industries.

Job Summary The Senior Product Manager – Chemical Indicators at Mesa Labs is a strategic upstream role responsible for leading product strategy, innovation, and lifecycle management for the chemical indicator portfolio within the Sterilization business. This individual will drive market and customer research, define product requirements, and lead cross-functional teams through the development and commercialization of new solutions that meet evolving healthcare and life science market needs. Acting as the voice of the customer, the Senior Product Manager will identify growth opportunities, prioritize product investments, and ensure alignment with regulatory standards and business objectives. The ideal candidate brings deep domain expertise in cleaning and sterilization monitoring, strong analytical and leadership skills, and a passion for delivering high-impact solutions that improve patient safety and infection control outcomes.

Duties/Responsibilities

Upstream Product Strategy:

Define and execute the strategic roadmap for the chemical indicator portfolio, aligning with market needs, regulatory requirements, and business objectives.

Voice of Customer (VOC):

Lead customer research initiatives to gather insights from hospitals, sterile processing departments, and infection control professionals to inform product development.

New Product Development (NPD):

Drive ideation, business case development, and cross-functional execution of new product initiatives from concept through launch.

Portfolio Management:

Oversee lifecycle management of existing products, including enhancements, rationalization, and end-of-life planning.

Market Analysis:

Conduct competitive assessments, market segmentation, and opportunity sizing to guide investment decisions and prioritize innovation.

Requirements Definition:

Translate customer and market needs into clear product requirements and specifications for R&D and engineering teams.

Cross-Functional Leadership:

Collaborate with R&D, Regulatory, Quality, Operations, and Commercial teams to ensure successful product development and commercialization.

Strategic Planning:

Contribute to long-range planning and portfolio strategy, including pricing, positioning, and differentiation.

Stakeholder Communication:

Present product strategies, roadmaps, and updates to executive leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.

Experience/Education Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or its recognized international equivalent in science or engineering (microbiology, biology, chemistry, biochemistry, bio/chemical engineering preferred), or related scientific/engineering field.

Minimum 5-7 years of progressive experience in product management within life sciences/medical device or related regulated industries

Proven track record of successfully developing multiple regulated products from concept through tech transfer and commercialization handoff

Excellent program management skills with demonstrated ability to drive multiple concurrent projects to completion

Outstanding communication skills with ability to translate technical concepts for diverse audiences

Fluent in English (Verbal and Written) and German (Verbal) proficiency B1

Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed (Approx. 20-25% of time)

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced degree (MS or MBA) in relevant scientific or business discipline

Cleaning and/or sterilization product experience

Consumables management/development experience in regulated industries

Deep understanding of microbiology and/or sterilization applications in biotech, pharmaceutical, medical device, and/or healthcare settings

Experience in GMP/GLP-regulated environments with knowledge of quality systems (ISO 13485, ISO 9001, FDA QSR)

Familiarity with stage-gate, Agile, or other structured product development methodologies
