HDR Engineering is seeking a Data Center Substation Engineering Manager (EM) to join our growing team of Power Delivery professionals. Primary Responsibilities As a Data Center Substation Engineering Manager in our Power Delivery practice, you will leverage your technical expertise in high voltage substation design and construction to lead, guide, and advise clients and project teams. You will undertake greater responsibilities based on your experience with complex substation projects. Your role involves developing a partnership with the Project Manager (PM), focusing on the technical execution of projects while the PM handles scope, schedule, budget, and client relations. Your responsibilities include: Developing a partnership with the PM, with clear roles: PM manages scope, schedule, budget, and client relations; EM leads technical teams and project execution. Creating and implementing project execution plans for technical work. Assigning tasks and providing technical guidance to team members. Supporting scope, schedule, and budget activities, including proposals, work breakdown structures, progress assessments, risk mitigation, change management, and schedule management. Mentoring and training project engineers, EITs, and designers. Conducting quality checks and reviews of project deliverables to ensure compliance with HDR’s Quality Management Systems, and reviewing work from other teams as needed. Managing multiple projects simultaneously across different locations. Collaborating with senior engineers to develop technical expertise and participating in training and industry seminars. Assisting in developing technical papers and presentations for industry conferences. Participating in project review meetings. Performing other duties as assigned. Preferred Qualifications Experience with an engineering consulting firm. At least 8 years of technical design experience in high voltage electrical switchyard and substation projects up to 500kV, including familiarity with physical, electrical, civil, and structural design components, and standards like IEEE, ANSI, NESC. Experience designing substations for 12kV to 500kV, with additional experience up to 765kV being advantageous. Proven ability to work cooperatively with diverse teams and management levels. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and conferencing platforms (Zoom, WebEx, Teams, etc.). Strong organizational, problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills. Ability to work independently and in teams. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Engineering. Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license. Experience in project execution within the Power Sector. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and sector-specific design software (e.g., PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Revit).
