ShearWorx has an immediate opening for an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator. This position requires 100% travel. While you may be assigned to a single location for an extended period, relocation between job sites is frequent and based on business needs. The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for running a 250 or 350 sized excavator with a shear attachment. The employee will be preparing (cutting up) scrap metal at off-site locations to a size that is acceptable to the steel mill of the customer’s choice. The primary material to be prepared will be steel rail cars but will also include aluminum rail cars and miscellaneous “yard‑scrap”. NOTE: do not apply to this position if you are not willing to travel weeks at a time. Responsibilities Operating a 250 or 350‑sized excavator with a shear attachment. Preparing scrap metal for customer steel mills, including steel rail cars, aluminum rail cars, and miscellaneous yard‑scrap. Ensuring safe operation of the shear and complying with all material preparation processes. Providing personal transportation to multiple sites as needed. Must Have Experience running an excavator with a second‑member shear attachment. Willingness and ability to travel extensively; the company reimburses fuel, hotels, and meals via per diem. Understanding of the limits and safe operation of a shear. Working knowledge of the metal preparation process. Must have a cell phone and be willing to use it for company communication. Nice‑to‑Have 5+ years’ experience working with rail cars. Leadership skills, able to manage 2–4 people. Ability to operate related equipment such as material handlers, forklifts, excavator with thumb, and others. Mechanically inclined with the ability to diagnose and perform minor mechanical repairs.
