Opportunity POWER Engineers, Member of WSP, is currently initiating a search for a Senior Transmission Planner for a remote opportunity. You will be involved in projects with our Electrical Studies, SCADA, and Protection (ESSP) team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients' objectives and solves their challenges.

This individual will be responsible for interfacing with other engineers in the preparation of computer-based models and performing power system studies on utility transmission systems and industrial/commercial electrical power systems including feasibility studies, system impact studies, reactive compensation studies, protective relay settings, critical clearing time, stability (transient & dynamic), long/short range planning studies, short circuit, load flow, motor starting, power factor correction, and other related studies.

The level of this engineer requires an individual who has extensive experience producing detailed transmission planning models and studies, participating in the proposal writing process, and enjoys customer contact to help in developing new opportunities for POWER. This person must be able to self‑manage, with a strong conceptualization ability and strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills – including the capability to explain complex technical issues at a variety of levels to decision-makers and project teams.

Your Impact

Lead and execute transmission planning studies such as network expansion, system impact, reactive, NERC compliance, and other relevant studies

Mentor junior engineers as‑needed to grow study teams

Support business development and support proposals

Execute project tasks based on the communicated scope, schedule, and budget.

Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Required Qualifications

Requires a BSEE

Ten (10) + years of hands‑on experience in power system studies

Excellent written and verbal English communication skills including proposal writing, report writing, and other technical writing

Experience with PSSE, PSLF, PSCAD, or other equivalent software packages

Experience developing and tuning models for new and existing transmission resources

Ability to work successfully in a customer‑focused, project‑oriented environment

Must reside and work within the United States.

Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Preferred Qualifications

PE registration

MSEE

Experience performing system impact studies in multiple US markets & networks

Expert in NERC compliance with extensive study experience

PSCAD experience including complex controls interactions, inverter and rotating generation, detailed FACTS modeling, grid‑forming controls knowledge, and subsynchronous studies.
