Base pay range $240,000.00 per year – $260,000.00 per year
Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply. Contact VHAVISN04HREDRP@va.gov – the EDRP Coordinator for questions/assistance.
Qualifications
United States citizenship (non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy)
Doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved school of medicine or osteopathic medicine for the year the course of study was completed
Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia
Residency training in an approved core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification: (1) Programs approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME); (2) Programs approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA); or (3) Other residencies with at least five years of verified practice in the U.S. deemed appropriate by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee
Residency program enrollees in ACGME/AOA accredited programs who meet the basic requirements are eligible to be appointed as “Physician Resident Providers” (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians, may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee‑basis, are not considered independent practitioners, and have a limited scope of practice under supervision.
Proficiency in spoken and written English
Preferred experience: Board certified in Internal Medicine or Family Practice
At least one year of VHA Primary Care experience or three years of non‑VHA Primary Care experience
Physical requirements: Moderate lifting 15–44 lbs, light lifting under 15 lbs, moderate carrying 15–44 lbs, reaching above shoulders, use of fingers, both hands required, walking 6–8 hours, standing 6–8 hours, both legs required, rapid mental and muscular coordination, near vision correctable at 13–16″ to Jaeger 1–4, far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other, both eyes required, depth perception, ability to distinguish basic colors, hearing (aid permitted) min 15/20 one ear, mental and emotional stability

Duties
The incumbent works as a member of a primary‑care team consisting of clerical staff, nurses, physicians, social workers, and clinical pharmacists.
The incumbent provides or coordinates all aspects of the patient’s care, including preventive, urgent, and routine care and women’s healthcare.
The incumbent applies sound judgment in assessing, planning, implementing, documenting, and evaluating patient care.
Primary Care is comprehensive, continuous, and covers preventive and psycho‑social aspects of patient management.
The incumbent meets access, quality, efficiency, satisfaction, and other performance standards established by the Veterans Health Administration.
The incumbent obtains medical histories, performs comprehensive physical examinations, orders appropriate diagnostic studies, interprets data, establishes diagnoses, formulates and implements treatment plans, and modifies plans as needed.
The incumbent orders subspecialty consults, tests, prosthetic requests, completes forms on veterans’ behalf within the treatment purview, and performs other clinical duties as directed by the Service Chief.
The incumbent uses quality‑improvement information to organize patient‑care needs for safe, efficient, and cost‑effective care, initiating actions in emergencies.
Care may be delivered in person, via VVC, or by telephone. The incumbent also participates in telemedicine care for outlying communities and may travel to other VA clinics for clinical coverage.
The incumbent is willing to treat opioid use disorder with buprenorphine therapy (training available), treat geriatric primary care patients, engage in women’s health, hypertension management, and diabetes management, and support residency training of affiliated medical universities and programs.
Benefits and Compensation
Competitive salary – Annual performance bonus – Regular salary increases.
Paid time off: 50–55 days per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 paid federal holidays, and up to 5 paid days for CME).
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5‑year vesting), federal 401(k) with up to 5% contributions by VA.
Insurance: Federal health, vision, dental, term life, long‑term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement).
Licensure: One full and unrestricted license from any U.S. state or territory.
CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full‑time with board certification).
Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided.
Contract: No Physician Employment Contract, no significant restriction on moonlighting.
Work schedule: Monday to Friday – 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
