Job Title: Legal Counsel (2500034T)
Position Overview: The Staff Attorney will support the Chief Legal Officer in handling a variety of legal matters for the organization as assigned. Tasks may be focused in several areas including litigation, business management, contracting, compliance, or consulting, depending on the needs of the office.
Qualifications
Minimum Education : Juris Doctorate (J.D.) with DC bar admittance required.
Minimum Work Experience : 4 years related or progressive experience in the law.
Required Skills/Knowledge : Knowledge of health care law issues pertinent to non‑profit academic medical centers; experience drafting and negotiating a wide variety of contracts; healthcare regulatory experience; availability to work full‑time on‑site at the hospital or other CN‑controlled locations; professional, responsive, collaborative, solution‑oriented, forward‑thinking, proactive, engaged attitude.
Required Licenses and Certifications : Licensed as a lawyer in MD, DC or VA upon hire.
Functional Accountabilities General Corporate Law
Manage contract review as assigned.
Provide advice on legal matters as assigned.
Support claims, litigation, and insurance matters as assigned.
Support office budget, management, compliance and governance matters as assigned.
General Legal Services
Provide advice on general legal matters in a timely manner.
Respond to legal questions from clinical staff promptly.
Cover attorney on‑call position as scheduled.
Complete assignments from the Chief Legal Officer in a timely manner.
Develop healthy relationships with internal customers.
Provide staff development education on legal issues as assigned.
Integrate with the Executive Director of Risk Management to manage risk for the organization.
Conduct business with a professional, collaborative, solution‑oriented, forward‑thinking approach; be well respected by peers and stakeholders as a team‑player and capable attorney; exercise good judgment and ability to raise concerns and manage potential poor decisions by clients or stakeholders.
