Length of Appointment 3 years.

Residency Strong preference for DC residents from all 8 wards.

Paid Board No (all roles are voluntary).

Commission Description The Commission shall:

Gather and evaluate information on the status of homeland security in the District of Columbia;

Measure progress and gaps in homeland security preparedness;

Recommend security improvement priorities in consultation with major public and private entities;

Advise the District of Columbia government on the Homeland Security Program.

Additional duties include reviewing periodic reports, assessments of regional homeland security efforts, and other documents relevant to the Commission's responsibilities, and using collected information to make recommendations for improvements in security and preparedness.

Commission Membership The Commission shall consist of 7 persons with expertise in security, transportation, communication, chemical safety, risk assessment, terrorism (including bioterrorism), or occupational safety and health.

Qualifications Individuals with professional and life experience in these fields are qualified to serve.
