GEI's California Water resources practice is growing, and we are seeking a Senior Hydraulic Structures Engineer. The candidate will also support GEI’s practice. The candidate will lead inspection, evaluation, design, and construction observation of hydraulic structures, including dams, spillways, outlet works, gates, water conveyance structures, pump stations. Strong design experience with steel, concrete and theoretical background, including linear and non-linear finite element modeling and analyses under static and dynamic loading is desired. Working knowledge of geotechnical engineering to assist in the design of soil/structure interaction elements is preferred. The selected candidate will work with senior leadership in GEI’s California Rancho Cordova office and elsewhere. Lead large projects within technical specialty and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams. Responsibilities will include structural analysis and design of hydraulic structures related to dams, flood control, hydroelectric facilities, and other water resource projects. Typical structures include spillways, outlet works, canals, storm drainage facilities, flood walls, and pump stations. Collaborate with senior project managers and technical staff across the company. Travel to project sites and other offices as required, including overnight travel. Review technical reports, letters, and memos. Lead, or provide oversight for the prep of design calculations, permit documents, and reports. Develop construction drawings, technical specs, cost estimates, and bid documents. Lead development of project plans, schedules, and budgets. Lead proposals to give professional services and support other GEI offices with proposals and delivery of professional services. Minimum Qualifications B.S. in Structural or Civil Engineering with an M.S./Ph.D. preferred. 10 yrs. pro. exp. civil/structural engineering. Licensed P.E. in California or ability to obtain within 1 yr. hire. Strong theoretical background in earthquake/seismic engineering and finite element modeling with expertise in standard structural engineering software (SAP2000, LS DYN/ANSYS). Excellent written / oral comm. skills & ability to work both individually and in team environment. Willing to travel to sites as needed, including field assignments. Valid driver's license.
