Job Description
Develop a clear understanding of the "mission" and "role" of interscholastic athletics.
Communicate the "mission and role" to players, parents, staff, and the public at least seasonally and informally throughout the year.
Establish and enforce policies for conduct and language during all athletic activities and events.
Allow athletes to compete fairly for positions each season, without automatic selection based on previous seasons.
Encourage athletes to develop other skills and interests in school and community activities.
Explain the relationship between interscholastic athletics and the broader educational goals.
Teach respect for school authorities and officials through example and instruction.
Support players in adverse situations and avoid public criticism or comments to media.
Ensure players adhere to game rules and regulations, reporting violations through proper channels.
Attend all required meetings and stay informed about relevant policies and rules.
Report scores and newsworthy information promptly.
Complete required reports to the MCPS Central Office.
Ensure all student-athletes meet eligibility requirements, including permission forms signed by a physician and guardian.
Manage equipment inventory, issue, and storage, providing reports to the Athletic Director.
Maintain a professional appearance and act as a positive role model.
Refrain from tobacco or alcohol use in sight of players and spectators during practices and games.
Develop and monitor academic performance improvement plans for athletes.
Create and execute a school calendar plan for athlete engagement, including preseason, in-season, postseason, and summer activities.
Ensure facilities meet quality standards throughout the year.
Distribute and review the athletic handbook, conduct parent meetings annually, and as needed.
