At Pauley Construction, as a Foreman on our Telecom Underground team, you’ll lead crews in the installation and maintenance of underground telecommunication systems. You’ll ensure everyone is following safety protocols and project timelines. This position includes work direction, coordination and oversight of a specific crew(s) ranging from 2-8 employees or subcontractors. It is responsible for overall safety, materials, reporting, customers, leadership, employee communication, and productivity measures. The Foreman will manage a crew that can oversee operations such as Trench & Plow, Aerial, Drilling/Bore, Asphalt or Conduit, and may include machine operation. This role requires frequent interface with customer and city inspectors, coordination of pre‑construction meetings, detailed safety and production records, as‑builds, and leadership of all crews. Candidates must be skilled excavation operators and assist with permits, safety, and locates. Strong customer service skills, positive conflict resolution, professional reporting, timesheet, job cost, material slip, purchase order and equipment maintenance experience are required. The Foreman is personally responsible for overall safety, job sites, customer, OSHA, DOT, and company policy and procedures.

What You’ll Do

Lead crews to meet project timelines

Shoveling, digging, handling and operating construction equipment.

Excavation operations including operating equipment and transportation of equipment if needed

General oversight over work direction within a crew or a group of sub‑contractors.

Assisting in securing site; employees and safety

General maintenance

General utility installation/repair

Assists with as‑builds and ensures attention to detail and high quality work

May assist supervisor in administrative tasks relating to hiring and interviewing employees.

Help with training of crew members

Read and understand blueprints

Help ensure everyone is following company safety policies, OSHA, and DOT regulations

Assist Supervisor with day to day activities

Speak with property owners about work to be performed and resolve any issues

Safely use heavy equipment and machinery

Perform work in all weather conditions

Other duties as assigned

What You’ll Need

To be 18 years of age or older

Authorization to work in the United States for this company

A valid driver’s license

Must be able to pass a background check and company drug screening.

Must be able to attend and pass all company required training as needed.

May be required to work over‑time; after hours; on weekends or be on‑call as work is needed to ensure work is completed.

May include working nights and holidays as needed.

May be required to travel in state or overnight as necessary to meet business needs.

Regular and timely attendance is an essential function of this position.

High School Diploma, GED equivalent, relevant work experience, or a combination of education and work experience preferred

Previous Foreman experience preferred

Additional Qualifications

6-12 months of work‑related experience pertaining to utility construction, telecommunications or laborer related work

Proven leadership experience to direct workflow and produce high quality results

Any combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates ability to perform the designated job duties and responsibilities of the position.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to make common sense understanding to carry out instructions that are provided in written, oral or drawing. Ability to deal with and understand problems involving different variables in many varied situations involving employees, customers and vendors.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts (measurements in terms of distance, proportions, percentages and area. Ability to apply concepts of basic mathematics.

Language Skills

Ability to read, understand and interpret documents such as safety rules and requirements, machine manuals of operation and process procedures. Ability to write information including reports. Ability to speak effectively to customers, coworkers, vendors and the public.

Physical & Safety Requirements And The Working Environment

Duties outlined in this position will require the employee to stand, crouch, sit, bend, use hands and fingers to handle or feel as well as reaching with hands and arms to spaces both high and low. The employee may be standing, walking, climbing, balancing, crawling, crouching, lifting, holding or stooping a moderate amount of time while on shift.

The noise level in the work environment for this position is moderate.

Employees performing functions of this position are regularly exposed to outside weather conditions which can include but is not limited to: extreme heat and cold temperatures; inclement weather such as rain, snow, sleet and dust as well as adverse driving conditions including wet roads, icy roads, and fog.

Employees performing these job functions are required to lift or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds.

Employees in this job classification may be exposed to dust, fumes or other airborne pathogens.

Employees may be exposed to toxic or corrosive chemicals as well as moving machinery parts and pieces.

Specific vision abilities required to perform this job include but are not limited to: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus potentially near and/or far as needed.

Pay Range The Foreman Telecom Underground hourly wage range is $20.00 - $45.00 depending on experience.
