Position Summary To further the mission of the camp through the planning and delivery of equestrian program activities and events. Design and deliver program activities that are safe, fun, and appropriate to the campers’ age and abilities. This position will work in partnership with the Wrangler Supervisor to plan and deliver a robust equestrian program. The Equestrian Supervisor will supervise activity specialists assigned to the Equestrian center.

GSGLA Lakota Overnight Camp The Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles’ Camp Lakota is a state-of-the-art, recently updated residential camp. Located just 90 miles from downtown Los Angeles, this premier camp site will host a full summer camp season. The camp will focus on providing a stand-out girl-led experience for campers of all ages and communities across our 6,272 square mile footprint. The camp offers a variety of specialty activities including a zipline, low ropes challenge course, horseback riding, swimming, and archery.

The camp operates with daily exposure to various weather conditions and animals such as bugs, raccoons, and other wilderness animals common to the area.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Plan, direct, and supervise a safe, innovative, and fun equestrian program.

Coordinate (with the help of equestrian specialists) schedules that meet camp goals.

Work with the Wrangler Supervisor to evaluate equestrian abilities of campers and staff.

Deliver progressive and creative equestrian program activities.

Plan tailored programs for each village that are specific to camper programs.

Train and supervise equestrian specialists.

Work with the Wrangler Supervisor to establish training and processes to be implemented into the equestrian program.

Assist in the planning and implementation of staff training.

Train equestrian specialists and camp staff in their equestrian program responsibilities.

Schedule, supervise, and evaluate equestrian specialists to provide a safe and high-quality program.

Work with the Wrangler Supervisor to assist them in the management of the physical facilities and equipment in the equestrian program area.

Set up equestrian center areas.

Conduct pre-season and end-of-season inventory, and store equipment prioritizing safety.

Check equipment and report maintenance requests to the GSGLA Camp Director.

Conduct a daily check of equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair.

Submit orders for equipment and supplies when needed, ensuring timely arrival of materials.

Survey equestrian area daily and keep the area free of hazards and debris.

Follow and promote safety processes that follow GSGLA and our horse vendor

Participate as a member of the camp staff team.

Attend all camp staff meetings.

Assist in the planning of any special events at or near the equestrian center.

Build relationships with campers through active participation in daily activities and informal interactions.

Support assigned village staff in creating an inclusive, welcoming, and supportive environment for all campers.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Must be 21 years of age or older.

Current certification in horseback riding or equivalent.

Extensive knowledge of horse care, riding instruction, and equestrian safety protocols.

Experience in supervising staff in an equestrian setting.

Must be available for 10 weeks of overnight camp (June 2026 – Mid-August 2026) and training dates that will be scheduled prior to camp.

Must possess and maintain a valid CPR/First Aid Certification throughout the position’s employment dates. Training will be available.

Must submit a basic health history form as set by the American Camping Association.

Ability to live onsite acting in an on-duty capacity for the duration of the camp season.

Ability to lift up to 45 pounds periodically.

Must possess endurance including prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching.

Recommended Education, Training and Experience

Prior supervision of an equestrian program in an overnight camp setting.

Proven experience supervising staff or volunteers in a camp or outdoor setting.

Experience working with youth in camp, school, or recreational settings.

GSGLA Employee Requirements

Comply with state‑mandated reporter training

Attend GSGLA signature events and/or other activities as assigned

Must successfully complete a Live Scan and background check
