The Opportunity We are looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer (Platform Engineer) to own our cloud infrastructure, developer experience, and core security and compliance foundations. This is a direction-setting role for someone comfortable being the primary DevOps person in a small team. You will work closely with product and internal tooling engineers to make environments consistent and reliable, and you will act as our main contact with Google Cloud.

What You Will Do

Design, provision, and maintain production and other infrastructures in Google Cloud using Terraform

Standardize Docker-based workflows so services run consistently across development, staging, and production

Define and document the path from laptop to cloud so engineers can self-serve environment setup and deployments

Configure and maintain networking and security including VPCs, subnets, firewall rules, DNS, and IAM or service accounts

Support core services such as Postgres and Redis including connectivity, access management, backups or snapshots, and basic performance

Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting so issues are visible, auditable, and easy to troubleshoot

Automate repetitive infrastructure tasks with scripts and tooling to increase engineering velocity

Work with engineering on SOC 2 related infrastructure controls and configuration hygiene

Own communication with Google Cloud support or consultants and drive recommended changes to completion

Produce and maintain runbooks, standards, and infrastructure documentation so knowledge is shared

What we are looking for

7 or more years in DevOps, SRE, Infrastructure, or Platform roles

Experience in a startup or high growth environment where you owned outcomes and operated with limited direction

Strong hands‑on experience with Terraform in production, including modules and environment separation

Strong hands‑on experience with Docker and container-based development

Cloud experience with GCP preferred, or strong AWS or Azure experience with willingness to complete GCP training or certification in 1 to 2 months

Working knowledge of Postgres in cloud environments including networking, access, and backups

Solid networking fundamentals including VPCs, firewalls, load balancers, and DNS

Comfort with Unix or Linux systems and shell scripting

Ability to work in some isolation while still providing leadership and clear guidance to application engineers

Our Tech Stack

Google Cloud Platform (GCP) (with flexibility for strong AWS or Azure candidates who can ramp on GCP quickly)

Terraform for Infrastructure as Code

Docker as the container standard

PostgreSQL and Redis for data and services

Unix or Linux, shell scripting, and cloud CLI tools

SOC 2 aligned security, firewall, and networking configuration

Bonus If You Have

Experience with Redis or similar key value stores

Experience with CI or CD tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab, or CircleCI

Exposure to Kubernetes, GKE, or other container orchestration platforms

Experience supporting SOC 2 or other compliance frameworks from an infrastructure perspective

Sydecar’s values Be Committed

As a team, we rise to meet challenges and recognize that we become stronger and develop character when facing adversity.

Be Excellent

We measure our success not just by what we achieve, but by how we achieve it—through integrity, creativity, elegance, and a commitment to continuous improvement. Excellence is not just doing things well—it's looking for ways to do them better.

Be Humble

Humility is our key to personal and professional growth. We appreciate that great ideas can come from anywhere, regardless of seniority, pedigree, or experience. We care more about collective outcomes than who gets credit or who does what. We try to not let our ego cloud our judgment.

Win Together

Winning is no accident. It is the result of collective hard work, perseverance, sacrifice, and most of all, loving what we do. Winning requires that we give extra—sometimes winning calls for late nights or extra effort, and we show up for clients and each other with urgency and heart. While excellence is a journey, winning is a destination.
