Summary An opportunity exists for a full or part-time Ophthalmologist at the Milo C. Huempfner Outpatient Clinic – located in Green Bay, WI. This is an open continuous announcement. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis and qualified candidates will be considered as vacancies become available.

Qualifications

Must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement.

Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under previous qualification standard are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements

United States Citizenship (non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy).

Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an approved school within the year of completion.

Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or District of Columbia.

Residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.

Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs who would otherwise meet basic requirements may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs).

PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (not training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee‑basis.

PRPs are not independent practitioners and will not be privileged; they must have a scope of practice that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision.

Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred experience: 5 years as a staff/attending ophthalmologist (graduating residents considered).

Physical requirements: sedentary work with occasional standing, bending, and carrying light items.

The incumbent must interact with staff, patients, and other services.

Duties

Attending required staff meetings, communicating up and down the chain of command, and helping prepare heads‑up and issue briefs related to adverse patient outcomes as directed by the Section Chief.

Clinical management including indirect patient care: open encounter and open consult maintenance – CPRS documentation requirements.

Maintain involvement in clinic productivity matters, performance measures, quality and patient safety oversight, and process improvements.

Conduct multiple clinics per week, perform and supervise retinal laser procedures in the laser room.

Document services appropriately (history and physical, progress notes, procedure notes); perform ophthalmologic procedures on patients including consultation and care to correct or treat various conditions.

Make preliminary diagnosis, direct, prescribe, or provide treatment, and arrange for specialized care or referral as required.

Training and familiarity with diagnosis and state‑of‑the‑art management of retinal disorders.

Provide comprehensive ophthalmology care including prevention, health maintenance, early diagnosis, treatment, and follow‑up services.

Conduct outpatient clinics; review patients' medication, diet, course of therapy, adherence to the management plan, and observations; modify plan as indicated; instruct and counsel patients as required.

Serve as a consultant to primary care physicians and accept referrals and outpatient consultations from other providers.

Educate patients and staff in assessment, treatment, management, and evaluation of ophthalmologic disorders.

Refer patients as appropriate, work closely with allied health professionals, and participate in surgical department quality assurance and peer review programs.

Other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule Monday‑Friday, 8:00 am–4:30 pm. VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package.
