The Senior Manager – Gene Reading Bioinformatics will lead a team of bioinformaticians and collaborate with other R&D and business unit teams to identify and execute high‑value product development opportunities. This role provides both technical and strategic leadership in Next Generation Sequencing (NGS)-related product development aligned with IDT’s strategy. The position reports to the Director of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology and is based on‑site in Sunnyvale, CA.

In This Role

Manage and direct staff, including hiring, training, coaching, performance management, talent development, and in collaboration with direct reports set annual performance objectives and development goals.

Plan resources and achieve project milestones and timelines.

Collaborate with the business unit to engage with NGS customers, identify new projects, manage project priority, and protect IDT patent positions.

Establish productive collaborations with key opinion leaders and other Danaher operating companies to drive innovative technology and product development.

Support the integration of R&D activities with global business plans and serve as an advisor to executive leadership.

Lead the development of data‑analysis and oligo design software, including the development and patenting of new technologies.

Present new technologies or products at scientific conferences and customer sites.

Essential Requirements Of The Job

Minimum of Bachelor’s degree with 15 years of research and development experience, 5 years in the biotech industry, and 2 years managing a team.

Expert knowledge and experience in Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) Bioinformatics.

Significant prior experience working at the wet bench or leading team members working at the wet bench.

Strong understanding of the underlying biochemistry of NGS library preparation and associated technologies.

Prior experience with writing patents and/or supporting patent prosecution (IP).

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

Deep understanding of the current and predicted future state of the NGS market, with experience engaging with customers to address market and technical needs.

It Would Be a Plus If You Also Possess Previous Experience In

Expertise in genetic disease, clinical testing, and oncology.

Benefits and Compensation The annual salary range for this role is $180,000‑$210,000. This role is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay. We offer a comprehensive package of benefits including paid time off, medical/dental/vision insurance, and 401(k) to eligible employees.
