Opportunity Description Seattle Central College is looking to hire a Temporary Associate Director in Basic & Transitional Studies.

Salary Range $70,488 to $97,340 annually (depending on experience).

Position Summary Under the supervision of the Dean of Basic and Transitional Studies, the Temporary Associate Director will provide support to faculty and students; lead grant efforts, related data projects and assessment; manage new student orientation; manage off‑site ESL and ABE classes; and support the HS+ program. The role supervises the Reporting and Assessment Coordinator, Tutoring Program Coordinator (0.5 FTE), Tutoring and Technology Specialist, Student Specialist for ABE/GED/HS+, and Program Coordinator. The position is full‑time, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, with occasional evenings or weekends as needed, and is 100 % on‑site, governed by a collective bargaining agreement with AFT Pro Staff representation.

What You Will Be Working On Support ABE, GED, HS+, ESL students, staff, and faculty

Lead student retention efforts, including holding progression and appeal meetings.

Collaborate with other campus offices, such as Enrollment Services and Workforce Education, on behalf of BTSD students, staff, and faculty.

Oversee Tutoring Center operations in collaboration with the Tutoring Center Coordinator.

Manage and schedule instructional computer labs and quarterly CASAS post‑testing.

Collaborate with instructional resources faculty lead to identify Ed Tech Tools/Resources and to support and troubleshoot as needed.

Regularly communicate administrative program requirements and deadlines to staff and faculty such as registration deadlines and reminders about attendance reporting.

Lead grant efforts, reporting, and related data projects and assessment

Support the Dean with grant proposals (including BEDA Master Grant and IELCE Grant), reporting processes such as quarterly LACES data snapshots, and program review efforts for state and federal Basic Education for Adults funds dispersed by SBCTC.

Work with Reporting and Assessment Coordinator to ensure SBCTC data requirements are met, including CASAS testing, LACES demographic data intake, and special programs tracking.

Serve as CASAS Cadre co‑lead alongside the Reporting and Assessment Coordinator lead, including training and trouble‑shooting during CASAS pre‑ and post‑testing.

Develop and implement data projects aimed at program improvement.

Manage New Student Orientation

Develop and oversee the new student intake and enrollment process from application to orientation to enrollment.

Schedule application dates and new student orientations.

Connect with other campus offices to support orientation needs.

Maintain updated orientation materials and provide training for associated staff and faculty members.

Serve as primary contact to community partners hosting BTS classes.

Collaborate quarterly with community partners to promote classes.

Schedule off‑site registration and testing.

Support off‑site teachers and students in connecting to campus resources.

Manage off‑site registration including waiver process and enrollment management.

Provide Leadership And Management Of Staff

Supervise Reporting and Assessment Coordinator.

Supervise Tutoring Center Coordinator and Technology Specialist.

Supervise ABE Student Specialist and PT Program Coordinator.

Share oversight of office functions with other staff members.

Schedule and lead/co‑lead division staff meetings and retreats.

Take an active role in resolving conflicts and addressing student complaints/concerns in the division.

Support onboarding, staff development, and co‑lead Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion efforts for the division.

Support Outreach, Recruitment, And Retention

Manage BTSD website updates and public‑facing program information such as outreach materials.

Provide leadership for Recruitment and Retention efforts.

Collaborate with students, staff, and faculty lead to develop and implement Outreach, Recruitment, and Retention.

Maintain and develop relationships with community partners.

Note: Outreach and recruitment efforts for new students is limited as we currently have more demand from interested students than capacity. However, we do continue to work closely with community partners to create referral opportunities.

What you bring as a candidate

Bachelor's degree in education, public administration, student development, related area, or combination of relevant work experience and education.

Experience collaborating with faculty on initiatives that support instruction.

Program coordination involving collaboration with multiple agencies and stakeholders.

Experience working in a diverse setting with demonstrated ability to interact professionally and respectfully.

Experience with the adult basic education population, including ABE/GED, immigrant and refugee ESL, and/or IBEST students.

Knowledge of barriers to access and success for immigrant, low‑income, and/or students of color, with demonstrated experience helping students overcome these barriers and implementing systems‑level improvements to promote equity and inclusion.

Knowledge of college advising and enrollment systems. Ability to develop materials, systems, and processes to support staff and students with college enrollment, registration, and financial aid navigation.

Ability to maintain professional boundaries while supporting students with diverse needs, and to coach staff and faculty in de‑escalation, conduct reporting, and having difficult conversations with students.

Experience in grant writing and reporting.

Strong technology skills, including Excel, database experience, and course management system (such as Canvas).

Demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects in a fast‑paced environment.

Detail‑oriented.

Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
