Southern Company is hiring a Principal Project Manager/Engineer for Grid Enhancing Technologies in Atlanta, GA. This hybrid role involves leading technical evaluations and deployments of advanced grid solutions, coordinating cross‑functional teams, and ensuring regulatory compliance.

This position is critical for advancing Georgia Power Company’s integration of emerging grid technologies to support customers’ evolving energy needs. This role will provide technical leadership in the identification, evaluation, development, and deployment of advanced grid solutions, including assessment and technical reporting for regulatory and government requirements.
Major Job Responsibilities
Lead coordination for technical evaluations and deployments of emerging grid solutions, with a particular focus on Grid Enhancing Technologies (GETs).
Support and lead coordination of technical evaluation, assessment of, and reporting on projects, with focus on those funded by governmental agencies, partnerships, and regulatory coordination.
Develop frameworks and processes for GETs integration, ensuring alignment with regulatory commitments.
Manage and coordinate deployment of strategic projects, including performance metrics and regulatory compliance.
Collaborate cross‑functionally across Southern Company to ensure consistent strategy and execution for emerging grid technologies.
Represent Georgia Power externally to communicate technical efforts, build partnerships, and align industry initiatives.
Translate technical findings into compelling executive summaries that inform enterprise decision‑making.
Job Requirements (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills)
Bachelor’s degree required; degree in engineering or related field preferred.
Proven experience in technical project management, preferably in grid technologies or energy infrastructure.
Strong analytical skills to assess opportunities, resolve issues, and implement effective solutions.
Demonstrated ability to lead cross‑functional teams and coordinate complex projects.
Excellent communication and presentation skills for engaging internal and external stakeholders.
Experience with regulatory processes and grant‑funded projects (DOE, GEFA, etc.) is highly desirable.
Technical expertise in Transmission & Distribution systems, planning models, GETs, and emerging energy technologies preferred.

Location & Schedule Atlanta, GA. The work schedule includes four days in office and one day of telecommuting. Travel up to 25% of the time may be required.
