Base pay range $175,000.00/yr - $180,000.00/yr

A compassionate and skilled Overnight Emergency Veterinarian is being sought to join a dedicated team committed to providing high-quality veterinary care. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong medical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to build lasting relationships with clients. This role includes close collaboration with experienced veterinarians, technicians, support staff, and hospital leadership. This position is based at a major 24/7 emergency and specialty veterinary center in the Mid-Atlantic region – one of the area's largest and best-equipped facilities. The hospital offers a dynamic, team-oriented environment where exceptional medicine and genuine support go hand in hand. Schedules are designed to promote true work-life balance and long-term professional wellbeing. This is a full-time overnight role, 7:00 PM-7:00 AM, following a two-week rotating schedule with only five shifts every two weeks – approximately 130 working days per year.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct comprehensive patient exams and medical work‑ups

Communicate with and educate clients

Perform diagnostic procedures and surgery

Maintain accurate medical records

Prescribe medications and follow controlled‑substance protocols

Promote teamwork and staff efficiency

Collaborate with the Hospital Manager on weekly priorities

Evaluate and monitor protocols from intake to discharge

Monitor hospitalized cases and attend rounds when possible

Participate in practice management updates and training Perform additional duties as assigned

Ability to perform occasional physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 pounds

Broad clinical knowledge, including cardiovascular, respiratory, orthopedic, and neurological examinations

Required Qualifications

DVM degree from an accredited college or university

Current state veterinary license

DEA registration (must be obtained and maintained)

1+ years of experience in veterinary emergency medicine

Strong diagnostic and clinical skills

Excellent surgical and dental abilities

Ability to work effectively in a team environment

Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills

Commitment to providing compassionate, high‑quality care

Ability to communicate clearly with clients and staff

Confidence when assisting pets in severe stress, illness, or pain
