Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) Psychiatrist– Locum Tenens
This role is ideal for physicians experienced in crisis assessment, emergency psychiatry, and managing involuntary holds.
Base Pay Range $225.00/hr - $250.00/hr
Setting Psychiatric Emergency Services & Crisis Evaluation
Position Overview
Psychiatric Emergency Services + crisis evaluations
Average Daily Census: 25–30
Staffed by up to 3 physicians per shift
EMR: EPIC
ED psychiatric presentations
Crisis holds (5150/5585)
Walk-ins
Transfers
Psychiatric consults
Schedule Structure This position follows a 28-day rotating schedule shared among 4 providers.
Total Shifts per Provider: 9 shifts every 28-day cycle
Total Hours: ~125 hours per rotation
Shift Type: Overnight only
Shift Durations: 15‑hour shifts (majority); 10‑hour shifts interspersed
Note: Current team members report that the longer overnights can be challenging; some schedule flexibility may be available.
Compensation
Max Pay Rate to Provider: $250/hr
Qualifications
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry
Active California medical license (or willingness to obtain)
Experience in emergency psychiatry, crisis stabilization, or acute behavioral health preferred
Strong clinical judgment and comfort with fast‑paced environments
