Amazon is seeking a talented and motivated Electrical Engineer to work on system design, implementation and release to manufacturing. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in system design, complex analog and digital circuit design, power electronics; possess good communication skills; own a large component of a system; and lead a team of Electrical Engineers. This candidate must have the ability to work well both independently and in a team setting.
Key job responsibilities
Working with an interdisciplinary team to execute product designs from concept to production including design, prototyping, validation, testing and certification
Leading and supporting a technical team on multiple projects in parallel
Coordinating all activities within the engineering discipline for the project
Ensuring coordination with other disciplines is effective for each project
Thorough understanding of technical principles and concepts in Electrical Engineering
Writing and developing functional specifications, design verification plans and test procedures
Architecting, designing and implementing complex embedded systems, analog and digital circuit design and systems debugging
Supporting product releases to manufacturing and customer deployments
Executing tasks to tight schedules
Establishing development processes to meet industry standards for functionally safe control systems (IEC 61508)
Basic Qualifications
Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures
BS degree in electrical engineering or equivalent
10+ years of hardware engineering experience
Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production
Experience testing hardware/mechanical sub‑components, research and data analysis skills, and/or printed circuit board (PCB) layout best practices
Experience with general troubleshooting/debugging of hardware, or experience designing or architecting new and existing systems
Expert in schematic entry, layout tools and design for manufacturability (familiarity with OrCAD Capture and Cadence Allegro tool flow is a plus)
Experience designing high volume PCBs with design‑for‑cost targets
Experience designing complex schematics containing analog and digital electronics including boards with FPGA’s, microcontrollers or microprocessors
Experience with mixed signal designs
Experience with serial communication interfaces (CAN, SPI, Ethernet, USB, etc.)
Proficient with PSPICE for analog circuit simulation
Demonstrated strong ability to move seamlessly between levels of abstraction – from system to the “nuts and bolts” implementation
Extensive system design interfacing to a wide array of electro‑mechanical subsystems and debugging experience
Commitment to rigorous testing practices and design process flows
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent
Experience with the project management of technical projects
Can work proactively and independently, meet deadlines, and deliver on projects and tasks
Experience understanding needs of business and end customers and translating them into right solutions
Experience identifying and resolving complex issues
Experience contributing to engineering discussions around technology decisions and strategy related to a product
Strong organizational and planning skills
Excellent written (white papers) and oral communication skills
Ability to support domestic and international travel as required by the program
Experience applying IEC 60204 and/or IEC 61508 machinery safety standards preferred
Experience designing, developing and certifying safety‑rated hardware systems is desirable
Experience troubleshooting and resolving EMI/EMC issues

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $128,600 / year in our lowest geographic market up to $213,600 / year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
