The Chair will provide overall strategic direction and oversee the ongoing performance of the department, be responsible for recruitment and retention of outstanding staff, and ensure the alignment and development of critical resources to achieve goals for each of the three Mayo shields: clinical practice, research, and education. In addition, Mayo’s tradition of integration requires leaders to facilitate alignment and teamwork across disciplines to ensure the most effective medical treatment and the highest quality of patient care.
At Mayo Clinic Children's, more than 300 physicians with pediatric specialty expertise offer integrated care in over 70 specialty programs and clinics to children and teenagers from all 50 states and more than 70 countries each year. The goals of the
Mayo Clinic Children’s Chair
will include growing, innovating, and advancing the Children’s practice at Mayo as a destination for complex care.
MISSION OF THE CHAIR, MAYO CLINIC CHILDREN'S Guide and set direction for the department within the framework of institutional policy and direction, in collaboration with other department and institutional leaders, and in partnership with the Administrator. Oversee the day-to-day performance of the department as set forth by annual plans and priorities. Provide stewardship of departmental resources to serve the institutional good while promoting the long-term growth and development of the practice. Ensure that patients receive the highest quality care (outcomes, safety, and service). Nurture the development of staff, and mentor the current and next generation of Mayo’s leaders. Promote the discovery and effective delivery of leading edge medical science and treatment. Advance the Department’s and Mayo’s research and academic mission.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CHAIR, MAYO CLINIC CHILDREN'S Shape the Department Vision – develop a shared vision and provide strategic direction for the future of the department that incorporates the three shields. Develop Staff and Organization Capabilities – develop staff and organization capabilities to provide for present needs and build for the future. Develop and support the scholarly mission of Mayo Clinic and contribute to practice transformation by promoting team science that focuses on addressing the unmet needs of our patients. Establish Business Plans – establish plans and allocate resources to achieve strategic priorities. Manage Performance and Resources – oversee day-to-day operations to ensure excellence and promote continuous improvement. Implement and Support the Mayo Clinic Model of Care – all Department/Division Chairs are expected to promote the
Mayo Clinic Model of Care
(MCMC). Promote Collaboration and Communication. Accountability – Division Chairs are directly responsible to the Department Chair. The Department Chair is directly responsible to the Mayo Clinic CEO. Authority – The Chair has the authority to make decisions consistent with his/her responsibilities, within his/her budget and within Mayo policy.

QUALIFICATIONS MD or DO degree. Candidates must be board-certified with the American Board of Pediatrics and/or their pediatric subspecialty and will need to become licensed or eligible to be licensed in the state of Minnesota. The ideal candidate will possess an academic rank of professor and be an academically active leader, remaining so during their tenure. The candidate must have a track record in enhancing Pediatric services, team building, visionary strategy setting, and making impactful decisions. Strong strategic planning, interpersonal, leadership, and communication abilities are essential. Evidence of progressive and significant leadership experience throughout their career. Must understand legislation, Medicaid, etc. and be involved on external boards with a voice in this space.
