Job Summary: The Certified Surgical Technician provides surgical assistance to residents and attending surgeons in the oral surgery clinic and dental ambulatory OR/procedure room. The role involves preparation, organization, and support of all surgical procedures while ensuring patient safety and compliance with protocols.
Key Responsibilities: Escort patients to the surgical chair, screen patients awaiting surgery, and review medical records to confirm treatment and chart completeness. Provide continuous “four-handed” assistance to clinicians during procedures. Ensure all countertops, mayo stands, and equipment are cleaned and disinfected prior to setup. Organize sterile instruments, surgical trays, and equipment for each procedure. Take radiographs as requested before, during, or after procedures. Restock cabinets and drawers; order and maintain medical/surgical supplies. Provide chair-side assistance including monitoring vitals, suctioning, passing instruments, and administering medications as needed. Remove instruments and equipment at the end of procedures and properly dispose of medical waste. Respond effectively to emergencies as they arise in the clinical setting.
Requirements: Certified Surgical Technician (CST) required. BLS certification preferred. Associate’s Degree required. Ability to work weekends and holidays as scheduled. Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to respond quickly in emergency situations.
