The Washington Post is powered by the passion and talent of our people. It takes all of us to reinvent news. Beyond our award-winning Newsroom and Opinions teams, we work across many departments, including Brand & Events, Communications, Customer Care, Engineering & Product, Finance, Human Resources, Legal, Marketing & Advertising, Print Operations, and Sales. Why This Role Matters

You are passionate about building a culture where employees feel connected to mission and strategy and empowered to do their best work. You bring strategic vision and operational rigor to the employee experience, using programs and communications to reinforce organizational priorities and support times of growth and transformation. You think clearly in complexity, move swiftly through ambiguity, and bring structure to change. You are energized by building systems that scale, launching impactful programs, and designing communication strategies that make change easier to understand and embrace. How You'll Support The Mission Employee Engagement Programs Develop and manage initiatives that support employee connection, motivation, and retention across all departments. Drive the employee experience strategy through programs focused on recognition, feedback, connection, and cross-functional collaboration. Internal Communication Strategy Lead internal communication campaigns to build awareness, understanding, and alignment around key organizational priorities. Manage communication channels (email, intranet, Slack, events) and editorial calendars to ensure consistent, high-impact messaging. Write and design compelling communications that support transparency, reinforce culture, and foster employee trust. Partner with leaders and HR to craft messaging for enterprise initiatives, organizational changes, and leadership updates. Change Management Support Act as a key partner in planning and executing internal communications and engagement strategies tied to change initiatives (e.g., org redesign, new systems/processes, policy changes). Create change communication plans and toolkits that support smooth transitions and reduce friction. Collaborate with project teams and stakeholders to ensure timely, clear, and tailored communication across audiences. Build leader and manager readiness through targeted communication and engagement support during periods of change. The Skills and Experience You Bring 5+ years of experience in internal communications, employee engagement, organizational development, or change management. Proven ability to manage end-to-end communication campaigns and engagement programs. Strong written communication and content development skills. Experience managing communication platforms, such as intranet and Slack. Experience supporting organizational change through communications, training, or program design. Ability to work independently and cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment. Bachelor’s degree in Communications, HR, Organizational Development, Business, or related field. Preferred Qualifications Graduate degree in communications, organizational change, or a related discipline. Strong visual storytelling skills. Experience in a large or matrixed organization undergoing transformation. Collaboration makes us stronger.
