This is a temporary, on-call position for 3 months, pending completion of Peer Certification required for the role. Candidates with Peer Certification are strongly preferred. Bilingual candidates speaking Spanish, Vietnamese, or Russian are preferred, with the ability to balance their own recovery journey with supporting others. Experience as a mental health consumer or family member is required. This is a field-based, on-call role.
Pay rate: $28.09/hr
The Peer Navigator provides support, wellness, and recovery services within the community. This entry-level, unlicensed paraprofessional role requires experience navigating the mental health system. The position involves close supervision, skill development through on-the-job training, and the ability to support clients' recovery processes.
Additional Compensation:
6% shift differential for overnight shifts (11 pm - 7 am)
4.5% shift differential for evening shifts (5:30 pm - 10:59 pm)
4.5% shift differential for weekend shifts
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist clients in navigating mental health services, including referrals, accessing benefits, and community resources.
Establish relationships with service providers, community agencies, and educational institutions.
Support families in utilizing resources and participate in client support activities.
Provide one-to-one client assistance and mentoring.
Build rapport with clients and their families at enrollment.
Act as a liaison and advocate to ensure respectful, accessible services in the community.
Promote wellness and recovery networks, conduct outreach, and participate in team meetings.
Assist in crisis support and maintain client documentation.
Provide transportation as needed.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
High school diploma or GED; personal experience with mental health services is essential.
Strong problem-solving, communication, and multitasking skills.
Ability to work independently and in teams, with cultural competence and empathy.
Valid California driver’s license, reliable vehicle, auto insurance, and clean DMV record are required.
Physical ability to perform essential functions with or without accommodations.
