Super Heavy Motor Equipment Operator - DPW CITY OF WESTFIELD SPECIAL HEAVY MOTOR EQUIPMENT OPERATOR – DPW WMEA GRADE 13 GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Operating specialized heavy motor equipment on an assigned basis. Work involves responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of heavy specialized and frequently complex construction and maintenance equipment requiring considerable manipulative skill. SUPERVISION: Work is performed under general supervision in accordance with all Massachusetts and Department of Transportation rules and regulations. Working supervision, may be experienced over assigned helpers. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Operates and maintains dump trucks, backhoes, rollers, loaders, graders and any and all specialized equipment utilized by the Department of Public Works in their daily function. Undertakes general labor in conjunction with assigned duties as directed by the highway and sewer supervisor. Services equipment with fuel, oil, or coolants and makes minor adjustments and repairs. Performs required vehicle or equipment safety checks. Maintains vehicle and equipment operating and maintenance logs. Work can include manual laboring tasks. Such other related duties as required. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Valid CDL class A license, 2A, 1C hoisting license or as required by DOT regulation for applicable equipment or the ability to obtain necessary licenses within six months of hire. Minimum high school diploma or equivalent. Two years’ experience in related paid full-time work. SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS: Considerable knowledge of hazardous and safety precautions in operating equipment in this class. Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment operated. Ability to follow oral and written instructions frequently of a technical nature. Ability to work courteously and harmoniously with co-employees, supervisors and the public. Demonstrated skill in the operation of backhoes and loaders as used in road maintenance and repair. Demonstrated skill in the use of equipment and tools. PHYSICAL, MOTOR, AND VISUAL SKILLS: Physical Skills A significant portion of the day is spent standing and bending. Frequent climbing, stooping, kneeling, and crouching. Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling of objects weighing up to approximately 50 lbs. 95% of work performed is outside in varying degrees of temperature. Visual Skills Visual demands require routinely reading documents and operate motor vehicles and other equipment. #J-18808-Ljbffr
