Department Overview UC Davis Health is at the forefront of incorporating Advanced Practice Providers (APP) as part of interprofessional care teams to support increasing numbers of complex care patients. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications
Valid California Registered Nurse License without restriction
California Nurse Practitioner Furnishing License
California Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) without restriction
Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Certificate within 3 months of hire
American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR
National NP board certification in aligned specialty with the practice area
American Heart Association (AHA) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 7 days of hire
Graduation with a master’s degree, DNP or PhD in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing.
One year or greater recent experience as a pediatric acute care nurse practitioner
Ability to cope with personal stress experienced by team members, other professionals, and caretakers
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Judgement skills to effectively meet the needs of patients
Self-direction and organizational skills to function in an independent role
Ability to meet minimum standards for hospital credentialing and billing standards as a billable provider
Preferred Qualifications
Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN)
One year or greater recent experience as a nurse practitioner in pediatric surgery
Two years or greater PICU, PCICU, NICU or Trauma ED clinical experience
Department Specific Job Scope The Pediatric Surgery Nurse Practitioner cares for pediatric trauma and pediatric general surgery service patients and their families. The pediatric surgery service includes care in the OR, PACU, acute care floor, emergency department, PICU, and NICU. The role of the pediatric surgery NP is to facilitate multi-disciplinary care through interaction with patients, house staff, attendings and nurses. Patient care provided includes but not limited to, initiating appropriate consultations and referrals, post-operative patient evaluation and care, follow-up evaluations; and patient care planning and discharges, care education, and coordination of care. The NP also provides education to patients, family members, ICU team members, and medical providers including medical students, residents, and fellow physicians. NPs may participate in the design and implementation of research and/or quality improvement studies within the Pediatric Surgery Department.
