Applicants must be permanent in the Computer Specialist (Software) Civil Service Title.

Information Technology Services (ITS) is the technology services organization of the DSS, supporting its agencies with technology infrastructure and applications.

Key Responsibilities

Manage, mentor, and guide a team of network engineers responsible for planning, designing, configuring, installing, implementing, testing, troubleshooting, integrating, monitoring, maintaining, enhancing, securing, documenting, and supporting all DHS/DSS network components.

Manage several WAN projects related to planning, designing, configuring, installing, implementing, testing, troubleshooting, integrating, monitoring, maintaining, enhancing, securing, documenting, and supporting the agency’s network components such as routers, switches, firewalls, voice gateways, voice routers, WiFi controllers, access points, data circuits, servers, IP surveillance cameras, and other IP‑based hardware or associated devices connecting to the network infrastructure.

Address network bottlenecks based on Net IM system alerts, security logs, and network utilization monitoring tools to ensure optimum performance and 24/7 high availability.

Ensure Service Desk tickets for technical support are addressed with timely follow‑up and resolution, including coordination with various internal IT teams and escalation of major hardware/software problems.

Travel to various locations as required.

Minimum Qualifications

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in computer science or a related field, and two years of satisfactory full‑time software experience in designing, programming, debugging, maintaining, implementing, and enhancing computer software applications, systems programming, systems analysis and design, data communication software, or database design and programming, including one year in a project leader capacity or major contributor; or

A four‑year high school diploma or equivalent and six years of full‑time satisfactory software experience, including one year in a project leader capacity or major contributor; or

A satisfactory combination of education and experience equivalent to the above. College education may be substituted for up to two years of the required experience, and a master’s degree may be substituted for one year of experience. All candidates must have a four‑year high school diploma or equivalent and at least one year of satisfactory full‑time software experience in a project leader capacity or major contributor.

Applicants must explain in detail how their experience qualifies as project leader or major contributor. Experience in computer operations, technical support, QA, hardware installation, help desk, or as an end user will not be accepted.

Special Note To be eligible for Assignment Level IV, candidates must also have one year of satisfactory experience in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project in data administration, database management systems, operating systems, data communications systems, capacity planning, and/or online applications programming.

Preferred Skills

Juniper network switch configuration.

Basic Cisco switch configuration.

Experience managing a team of skilled network field engineers.

Compensation $114,930.00 – $132,170.00
