Company Overview

Atomic Machines is transforming modern manufacturing with its groundbreaking

Matter Compiler™

technology — a full-stack micromanufacturing platform that turns digital designs and raw materials into fully functional micromachines. This process enables the production of parts and device classes that traditional semiconductor fabrication cannot achieve, opening new frontiers in

MEMS, micro-mechanics, and advanced precision engineering .

With offices in

Emeryville and Santa Clara , Atomic Machines blends cutting-edge

CNC machining, automation, metrology, materials science, and R&D prototyping

to build hardware that hasn’t existed before.

About the Role

This

Prototype Machinist (Night Shift)

position begins with

day-shift training (8:30 AM – 5:00 PM)

for the first several months. Upon completion, the role transitions into a permanent

11:00 PM – 7:30 AM

schedule.

In this role, you will own machining projects from start to finish — including

CAM programming, tooling selection, fixture design, CNC machining, inspection, and documentation . You will produce tight-tolerance parts for the Matter Compiler™ and collaborate closely with engineers and prototype machinists to drive innovation in Atomic Machines’ R&D shop.

Key Responsibilities

Interpret

engineering drawings, blueprints, and 3D CAD models

to develop machining plans.

Create

CAM programs

using Fusion 360, Mastercam, HyperMill, or similar software.

Operate a wide range of CNC machines, including:

3-axis, 3+2, and

5-axis CNC mills

Live-tool CNC lathes

Waterjets and laser cutters

Machine precision components to tolerances as tight as

±0.0005" (±13 µm) .

Develop custom

fixtures, tooling, and workholding

for prototype manufacturing.

Perform

in-process and final inspections

using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and CMM.

Provide

design-for-manufacturing (DFM)

feedback to engineering teams.

Fabricate tooling, fixturing, and hardware for R&D assemblies.

Document setups, offsets, inspection results, and best practices.

Maintain an organized, clean, and safe machine shop environment.

What You’ll Need

3+ years of CNC machining experience

in a high-mix, low-volume, or R&D environment.

Working knowledge of

5-axis machining

or mill-turn systems.

Proficiency with at least one

CAM platform

(Fusion 360, Mastercam, HyperMill, etc.).

Strong

GD&T , blueprint reading, and tolerance interpretation skills ( Experience machining

aluminum, stainless steel, titanium , and similar materials.

Skilled in

manual machining

(mills, lathes, drill presses, saws).

Welding certification

or welding experience strongly preferred.

CMM or advanced metrology experience a plus.

Strong communication, documentation, and problem-solving abilities.

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
