Position Overview
The Board of Education of the York Central School District invites applications for the position of Superintendent of Schools. The successful candidate will serve as the chief executive officer of the district, providing visionary leadership and working collaboratively with the Board of Education, staff, students, families, and community to ensure educational excellence for all students. The Board is seeking a candidate who will make York their professional home for many years and will integrate into the community.
About the District York Central School District is located in Retsof, NY, serving PK-12. The district is made up of two schools with approximately 667 students and has a mission of providing quality education where students come first.
Key Responsibilities Leadership and Administration As chief executive officer, the Superintendent is accountable to the Board of Education for the administration of the educational system and represents the district as the chief executive officer in dealings with other school systems, professional organizations, business firms, agencies of government, and the general public.
Board Relations The Superintendent attends or has a representative attend all meetings of the Board, acts as reference agent for problems brought to the Board, and works with the Board of Education to develop appropriate programs and policies.
Compliance and Policy The Superintendent performs all duties and accepts all responsibilities as prescribed by the Education Laws of New York State, the rules and regulations of the Board of Regents and Commissioner of Education, laws and regulations of the United States, statutes of New York State, and the policies, rules, and regulations established by the Board of Education.
Public Relations and Communication The Superintendent represents the district before the public and maintains a program of public relations to keep the public informed of the activities, needs, and successes of the district, while also receiving all complaints, comments, concerns, and criticisms regarding district operations.
Qualifications Required:
Current New York State School District Administrator (SDA) or School District Leader (SDL) certification
Master's degree in educational administration or related field
Proven record of improving student achievement
Strong knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices
Experience with budget development and fiscal management
Excellent communication and people skills

Compensation and Benefits Competitive salary range of $160,000 - $185,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement benefits, and professional development opportunities. Residency is not required, but proximity to the district is essential due to the expectation of visibility and involvement in the school community. The Board is genuinely interested in candidates looking to make a long-term commitment to the district.
