Who We Are Nuro is a self‑driving technology company on a mission to make autonomy accessible to all. Founded in 2016, Nuro is building the world’s most scalable driver, combining cutting‑edge AI with automotive‑grade hardware. Nuro licenses its core technology, the Nuro Driver™, to support a wide range of applications, from robotaxis and commercial fleets to personally owned vehicles. With technology proven over years of self‑driving deployments, Nuro gives the automakers and mobility platforms a clear path to AVs at commercial scale—empowering a safer, richer, and more connected future.

About the Role In this role, you will be a key contributor to the development and safety of Nuro Driver. You will focus on the sensing, compute hardware, localization, and perception modules, ensuring their robustness, reliability, and safety according to industry standards. You will work cross‑functionally with hardware, software, operations, and product teams to define requirements, design system architectures, oversee integration, validate performance, and contribute significantly to the safety case. Your expertise will be crucial in delivering a safe and capable autonomous driving system.

About the Work

Lead system‑level requirements definition (in Jama), architecture design, integration strategy, and validation for autonomy sensors (LiDAR, cameras, radar, IMU) with respect to their application to localization and perception.

Drive system safety and performance characterization for autonomy sensors, including conducting hazard assessments, deriving requirements, and performing risk and safety analyses.

Collaborate closely with Sensor hardware teams on sensor selection, characterization, integration, and defining safety methodologies and requirements.

Partner with Perception and Localization software teams to define interfaces, performance metrics, failure modes, and validation strategies.

Support claims and evidence of the overall Safety Case pertaining to sensors and focusing on residual risk assessment.

Define and quantify test coverage requirements to ensure system performance and safety.

Perform root cause analysis for complex cross‑functional issues identified during integration and testing, driving them to resolution.

Provide technical leadership and guidance to cross‑functional teams, potentially mentoring junior engineers.

About You

Strong understanding of autonomy sensors (LiDAR, camera, radar, IMU) including the impact of sensors on localization or perception evaluation.

Proven hands‑on experience in systems engineering for complex hardware/software systems.

Demonstrated experience on one or more of: architecture design, integration, or validation of the Autonomy Platform.

Understanding of vehicle systems and their interaction with the autonomy stack.

Demonstrated experience working on safety‑critical systems including at least one of HARA, STPA, FMEA, FTA, safety concept development.

Ability to read code in C++ and write code in Python for analysis, tooling, and test automation.

Strong communication skills – both verbal and written.

Bonus Points

Experience with ISO 26262 or ISO 21448 or other safety methodologies (e.g., STPA).

Experience developing safety cases or safety arguments.

Experience with simulation environments and HIL testing for ADAS/AD systems.

Experience working directly with hardware vendors on component selection and integration.

Experience with requirements definition and management (e.g., Jama).

Experience with risk assessment methodologies and quantification.

Compensation & Benefits Base pay for this position ranges from $176,400 to $264,600, depending on experience, qualifications, education, location, and skills. The role also includes an annual performance bonus, equity, and a competitive benefits package.
