As part of our Water Business Group, you will help shape how communities manage water for generations to come. Your work will support public health, environmental sustainability, and infrastructure resilience by delivering safe drinking water, treating wastewater responsibly, and protecting lives and property through flood control.
Responsibilities As the
New England Area Wastewater Market Sector Lead , you will:
Create and lead a rolling 3‑5 year strategic plan for wastewater sector growth, including:
Advancing business development strategies to expand market share and client base.
Identifying, pursuing, and securing new clients and project opportunities with existing and new clients.
Align New England efforts with Northeast wastewater market leadership through regular coordination.
Lead annual wastewater alignment meeting and snapshot efforts.
Participate in:
NEWEA (in a leadership capacity)
New England leadership meetings as deputy to the WBG manager
Monthly BDM meetings
Relevant Market Sector and Business Class leadership forums
Serve as the client manager for selected key clients.
Primary responsibilities include project management, advancing market sector initiatives/strategies, and staff development. You will collaborate with technical and marketing staff to pursue new projects and clients, take leadership roles in key pursuits, and coordinate multiple projects.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in engineering, planning, or a related field.
Minimum 10 years of industry experience.
Experience developing and managing strategic marketing programs for planning and/or engineering services.
Experience managing a wide range of client relationships and specific program or project pursuits.
Experience in overall staff development, including recruiting, career path, and professional growth.
Experience with industry associations and maintaining a visible profile in the market sector.
Ability to work cooperatively with Market Sector Directors, Business Class Directors, Regional and Area Managers, and Marketing Staff.
Demonstrated commitment to HDR values and an active participation in our employee‑owned culture.
Preferred Qualifications
BS in Engineering from an accredited university.
Professional engineering registration in local states (or ability to obtain through reciprocity).
15+ years of experience with wastewater planning, design, and construction.
Experience and client relationships in the New England wastewater market.
Strong technical background in wastewater treatment systems and infrastructure.
Experience developing and managing a wide range of client relationships and program or project pursuits.
Experience in overall staff development.
Experience with industry associations.
Ability to work cooperatively with Area Water Business Group Leadership, Regional Market Sector Directors, and related stakeholders.
Preference for local candidates.
