Company: Qualcomm Innovation Center, Inc. Job Area: Engineering Group, Engineering Group > Software Engineering General Summary: Qualcomm is looking for Zephyr RTOS developers to join a new team that will be driving Qualcomm’s open-source Zephyr software for either in-person or remote roles.

We seek strategic thinkers with a deep technical understanding of Zephyr and related open-source projects who have made significant contributions to the upstream project. Ideal candidates have technical leadership roles in the upstream community, such as being maintainers, collaborators, or release managers. They will also be excited by the opportunity to bring about meaningful organizational change in Qualcomm’s open-source strategy and execution. Candidates with excellent communication skills will be given greater consideration.

As Senior Staff engineer, you will report to the Principal Engineer managing the Zephyr team on Qualcomm’s Open-Source Tech Team (OSTT). You will be a technical leader and contributor to a new upstream-focused, cross-platform, developer-first, unified, open-source, Zephyr-based firmware development platform for Qualcomm SoCs. Roles and Responsibilities

Help build and maintain a scalable platform that allows Qualcomm to deliver common core software into a public shared mainline for Zephyr-based software development

Maintain upstream Zephyr RTOS target support for Qualcomm platforms

Work with OSS & upstream initiatives within the Qualcomm Central Software Engineering (CSE) team to improve general software quality

Represent the company at industry events and conferences

Mentor and build open-source expertise within Qualcomm

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 6+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.

Master's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 5+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.

PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 4+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.

3+ years of work experience with Programming Language such as C, C++, Java, Python, etc.

Qualifications

Experience in open-source software development in the Zephyr Project community

Expertise in a low-level language like C, C++, or Assembly and a high-level language such as Python, Go, or Rust

Strong understanding of embedded software and the Zephyr Project software ecosystem

Ability to work cross-functionally with product and engineering teams

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or equivalent professional experience

Based in the Americas (North or South) or EU in a country with an existing Qualcomm legal presence

Willingness to travel globally as needed (likely several times per year)

Preferred Qualifications

Generalists: used to fighting fires, doing deep surgery on legacy code bases, reviewing code

CI and test infrastructure, in particular GitHub Actions and automated hardware validation labs

Wi-Fi and/or networking

Bluetooth

Low-level architecture support (e.g. RISC-V, Arm)

The Zephyr build system and hardware model v2

Zephyr drivers for common on-chip peripherals (SPI, I2C, watchdogs, etc.)

Security (secure boot, MCUboot, mbedTLS, and other core platform security features and related projects)

Power management

Pay range And Other Compensation & Benefits $162,600.00 - $244,000.00

The above pay scale reflects the broad, minimum to maximum, pay scale for this job code for the location for which it has been posted. Even more importantly, please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Qualcomm.
