Job Description Summary

  • The Assistant Front Office Manager sets the tone for Sonesta’s mission by always going above and beyond for our guests and coworkers. This role assists in managing all aspects of the front office areas, including guest registration, bell services, concierge services, business center, telephone services, and guest reservations to ensure guest satisfaction and maximize hotel profitability. Adheres to all brand standards and desk merchandising. Serves as Front Office Manager in the absence of the Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver on the promise of Sonesta A+ Service in all interactions with guests and clients.
  • Assist in managing the day-to-day activities of the Front Office staff and schedule colleagues to ensure proper coverage.
  • Recommend and/or initiate salary, disciplinary, or other staffing/human resources-related actions in accordance with company rules and policies.
  • Ensure all staff is properly trained on systems, security, and cash handling procedures, and have the tools needed to perform their duties.
  • Ensure prompt, professional attention to guests and respond appropriately to complaints.
  • Schedule and conduct routine inspections of the front office and public areas.
  • Assist in monitoring and controlling labor costs and expenses, and achieving revenue and profitability goals.
  • Maintain procedures for financial security and guest security, checking billing instructions and guest credit compliance.
  • Train staff to serve as a central communications point during emergency/crisis situations.
  • Promote teamwork and quality service through daily coordination with other departments.
  • Interact with external contacts, including guests, regulatory agencies, and community groups.
  • Perform other duties as assigned during peak periods.

Essential Functions

  • Greet guests warmly with a smile, use eye and ear contact, and address them by name.
  • Establish and anticipate guest needs, solve and own all requests and complaints.
  • Thank guests and ensure they are greeted upon arrival.
  • Implement service recovery gestures to ensure total satisfaction.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hotel Management, Business Administration, or related field plus two years of front office/guest services experience, including supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Fluent English required; other languages preferred.
  • Physical ability to lift or carry up to 50 pounds occasionally and work periods of up to 12 hour shifts.
  • Flexibility to work variable days of the week, including weekends and holidays, and variable shifts (day, night, overnight).
  • Communication, reading, writing, mathematical, problem‑solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, stay stationary, and use a keyboard to operate reservation and property management systems.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 25 pounds frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

Expected Hours of Work

  • Variable days and shifts, including weekends, holidays and overnight shifts.
  • Potential 10‑12 hour shifts at times.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Hotel Management, Business Administration, or related field plus two years of front office/guest services experience, including supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Pay Range $25.00 - $26.00
